Wise accounts upcoming changes

Featured Replies

Wise account holders residing in Thailand are supposed to have received an email asking them to provide complementary personal informations by the end of this month.

Failure to do so could lead to the suspension of the concerned accounts.

I haven't received this email from Wise yet and I would like to know if other members are in the same situation.

Most of us don't 'officially' reside in Thailand, so no emails and no changes.

  • I would be quaking in my boots right now if I were reliant solely on Wise for correctly-coded monthly ฿65k retirement extension transfers - which, thankfully, I'm not.

Wise have clearly expended a considerable amount of time, money and effort in creating 'Wise Ltd (Thailand)'. An entity which will come into being (officially) on the 3rd August. So you seem to think

I also haven't yet received that request for additional information that they had announced.

Myself or anyone I know haven't received any request from wise.

I did message wise asking if they would accept a Thai bank statement with my address in Thai for address verification when time comes.

Wise said shouldn't be a issue as long as you name and address matches you wise profile details.

Do Wise have your address as outside Thailand?

The question is: do they accept a proof of address written in Thai, because on most documents, including a yellow book (tabian baan) the address is never written in English.

Alternatively use your thai driving licence which is in English or get your bank to update your address to English and print a one page statement, 100 baht

Bank statements can be produced in Thai or English, 100bht.

Thai D/L has details in Thai and English.

Likewise (😁) I received an email back in May saying that they would be in touch for additional information before the end of June.

To date, I've not received any requests. It looks as if they are a little behind in their schedule.

Incidentally I did a transfer this morning. My UK bank to Bangkok Bank coded as "Funds for long term stay". It arrived before I'd even managed to close to the WISE app .

Feedback I had from wise was yes they will accept in Thai.

What do you use instead.please. I have used WISE for these transfers for years, and it has always taken until 2pm on the next working day if Long Term Stay was ticked.

I tried last month and now this month with Revolut, which says transfer is via SWIFT, was instant and was coded as an Iternational Transfer. The difference in cost was a couple of quid.

My WISE is registered at my Thai address. No email yet.

Wise is certainly getting hinky lately. I used to be able to xfer just under 50k baht instantly to my SCB bank. Now I can't get it to send 38k baht in less than a week. Getting a little less than happy about their service.

Timing does seem to vary bank by bank - I use BKK Bank and its 3-4 days minimum, but with KrungThai, instant.

My Wise to Bangkok Bank transfer took about 20 hours yesterday, I'll use Kasikorn in future

I asked Wise today and they answered that they accept proof of address in both Thai and English language

They are behind schedule for sending the email requesting extra information, but they confirmed that the changes will be implemented on August 3rd as previously announced

Sending from my American Wells Fargo account to my Thai Bangkok Bank account is a few seconds last time I did it a few days ago.

Reason: Travel expenses

No foreign exchange certificate needed.

I always send under 50,000 baht

Can I ask, why you would use SWIFT to transfer via Revolut? Is it the exchange rate, per chance?

Same here, I wrote and asked if these changes apply to me but received no answer.

It did it automatically. I know that a SWIFT is GBP with Nationwide, free with Barclays but a worse exchange rate.

All I can say is that my recent transfer of THB 35k cost ONE POUND more on Revolut than WISE, and arrived as an FTT instantly, which is strange because SWIFTs usually take a couple of days.

Nothing here also god knows what's happening.Said they would accept my TMN cable TV bill in Thai dated June 2nd hoping it's still less than 3 months old when they get around to it!

Why should that be a problem? I bank with Krungsri where they show up as a local transfer. (although see below) It's never stopped me from using monthly income to gain my extensions. I've been doing it for 8 or 9 years now.

Actually it's changed now. Wise deposits are now designated as 'Global Payments Hub'. So this coding business could be changing anyway.

I have received an E mail a couple weeks ago but they haven't asked for any Extra information or any updates from me for my account as yet.

Some features of your Wise account are changing.

Effective 3 August 2026, your Customer Agreement will change from Wise Payments Limited to Wise Payments (Thailand) Limited.

This means that when you send, receive, or hold money with Wise, your account will be under Thailand's regulations and overseen by the Bank of Thailand. As a result, some parts of your Wise experience will change.

What’s changing

Sending money

To send transfers between 2 non-Thai bank accounts — for example US to Singapore — payments must go via your Thai account, requiring 2 currency conversions (to THB, then to the destination currency). This will increase the total transfer cost.

You’ll now be able to send money abroad directly from your Thai bank account at the exchange rate you usually see on Google, with no hidden markups or fees. Learn more about exchange rates: https://wise.com/th/mid-market-rate.

Receiving and holding money

You won’t be able to withdraw money from Wise in currencies other than Thai baht to a bank account in another country. If you receive money in a currency other than Thai baht, we’ll automatically convert and add it to your THB. Conversion fees apply.

You will however be able to add money to Wise directly from your Thai bank (or overseas bank), and convert and hold it in over 40 different currencies.

Using your money and Wise card

You won’t be able to withdraw cash at ATMs in Thailand. You can still use your Wise card for local spending and can still withdraw cash from ATMs abroad.

You’ll be able to order a physical or digital Wise card to spend online, in-store and abroad without hidden fees or inflated exchange rates. Plus, you can scan ThaiQR or PromptPay QR codes using your Wise app to pay individuals and businesses.

Interest and Stocks

We can no longer offer Interest and Stocks in Thailand. We’ll sell any units you hold and add the settlement proceeds to your Wise account as cash. This may trigger tax liability, so please consult your tax advisor to understand your obligations.

What happens next

From June 2026, we’ll ask you to provide a few additional documents to meet Thai regulatory requirements. We’ll send you instructions closer to the date. Until then, you can continue using your Wise account as usual.

By continuing to use Wise on or after 3 August 2026, you confirm that you accept the updated Customer Agreement. If you don’t agree, you can choose to close your Wise account or stop using the affected services before 3 August 2026.

Check your wise account: Your Account/ Settings/ Personal Details, possibly all required data are already available (Country of Residence/Thai address and Thai phone number). So nothing to worry about!

BTW, wouldn't Xe be the next preferred money transfer routine? Even it takes quite a bit longer?

Exactly! I've been a Wise patron for 4 nine years now. They have always known that I am resident in Thailand although I cannot recall whether I have ever sent them proof of my address here. But if they're satisfied then I don't see that there is a problem.

Storm in a teacup IMO.

I've had a Wise account for 8 years already. I've used it for my daily spending everyday since then. I just completely stopped using my Wise account about a month ago. They have made too many errors on my account over the years.

I now started using my Revolut account full time instead. No problems with them. No strange surprises, changes or errors. Everything very smooth so far.

I much prefer the GUI on the Revolut app to the Wise app also.

The majority of international transfers into Thailand are SWIFT using 8 character codes for retail banking, Thailand does not use IBAN. The 8 characters are often padded with XXX to suit the normal 11 character arrangement.

If I do a transfer from my UK bank it is SWIFT, I do it in the afternoon and in my account the following morning. The time taken for SWIFT can depend on the remitting bank as some will use an intermediary. HSBC charge £5 for the transfer and I send GBP, overall the cost not much different to Wise.

Don't know anything about Revolut but as far as Wise goes, they currently use a peer to peer arrangement which can result in very fast transfers if all goes smoothly. Not sure what the new arrangement will be, but I would suspect it will become a SWIFT bank to bank transfer under the Thai Banking Regulations.
