BOT to Open Auction on Infamous Ratchadapisek Land Plot Later This Year

The Financial Institutions Development Fund, under the management of the Bank of Thailand, has prepared to open an auction on the infamous 33 rai plot of land in Ratchadapisek area of Bangkok.

Deputy Governor of the Bank of Thailand Thong-urai Limpiti, also the manager of the Financial Institutions Development Fund, has announced the management and auction plan for all the properties currently held by the fund, which will be closed in 2012.

One of the properties is the infamous 33 rai plot of land in Ratchadapisek area of Bangkok, previously auctioned to Potjaman Na Pombejra, the former wife of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The National Anti-Corruption Comission brought the case to the Civil Court which nullified the deal, citing Article 100 of the Charter, which prohibits government officials from entering into such transactions with a state agency.

Thong-urai expects the plot of land will be put on auction some time around September or October.

In addition to the Ratchadapisek land plot, the fund will also put six other plots of land on prime locations in Phuket province on auction.

The bidding process on these properties will begin in April and will be closely supervised by the Office of the Auditor General of Thailand.

Thong-urai believes the auction will attract many potential buyers, because the tourism industry in Phuket province has recovered well.

The fund also has about 100 smaller properties in possession, with the total value of less than 50 million baht.

These properties will be auctioned off next October.

The Bank of Thailand's Legal Department Director Weerachart Sriboonma said that an explanation of Article 100 will be enclosed with the bidders' applications, to prevent a repeat of the Potjaman case.

The auction will be voided and the winning bidders could face a 10 million baht fine if found to have violated anti-corruption laws.

It didn't say, if Khun Ying Potjaman can now bid for the land.

Now that the issue of the Ratchadapisek land has been resolved and she's lost it, there's this not-so-little matter that needs to be addressed now:

July 31, 2008

The Criminal Court found Pojaman Shinawatra guilty of intentionally avoiding a tax payment of 546 Million Baht.

Also found guilty Pojaman's brother Bannaphot Damapong and her personal secretary, Kanchana Honghern.

The court sentenced Pojaman and Bannaphot each to 3 years in jail and Kanchana to 2 years in jail.

The length of time she's remained free on bail AFTER conviction is nearing the length of her assigned prison sentence.

That is not her fault is it? - nice the way you word it as if it is. Why not ask the justice system to hold someone to account for this. Try a tread on the justice system and its weaknesses. After all this would be only one of thousands like it. Sondhi comes to mind.

Carefully done - but remains completely off topic as well as twisted in your special Buchholz style. Your as pro Amsterdam - that is for sure.

Off-topic?

The thread is about Ratchadapisek land plot becoming available for auction after it was confiscated from the person I'm mentioning and who, additionally, is included in the OP of the news article.

btw, I didn't directly blame her for the delay in her case (other than she is was the one who is appealing her conviction, which, of course, is her right). You're assigning a slant from me where there is none. In case you missed it, read the text above the photo to get an idea of the reality of the tone and context of my post, instead of your erroneous imagined one.

In regards to other cases still pending, I'm unaware of others that are appealing convictions as old as hers, if chronology matters.

Ratchadapisek Land Plot to See New Bidding

The Financial Institutions Development Fund has announced an auction of the Ratchadapisek land plot, previously owned by the ex-wife of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The Financial Institutions Development Fund, or FIDF, Manager Thong-urai Limpiti said an auction will be held for the 33-rai plot of land on Ratchadapisek Road.

The land was auctioned off to Khunying Pojaman Na Pombejara, ex-wife of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, but the sale was later annulled following the Supreme Court for political post-holder's ruling that Thaksin abused his authority as prime minister when he authorized his wife to purchase the land.

This is the first of the myriad of cases against Thaksin and forced him to go into self-imposed exile abroad as he was sentenced to two years in jail.

The court ordered the FIDF to return the 722 million baht Pojaman paid for the land, with a 7.5 percent annual interest, while the ownership of the land was reverted to the FIDF.

Thong-urai said both individuals and corporations can take part in the auction, and they can submit their bids from July 19 through August 1.

He added that those attending the bidding will be requested to make a 70 million baht down payment.

The auction date is scheduled for August 17, and the winner of the bidding will have to make an immediate 50 percent payment.

The rest of the payment is due no later than September 14.

He said the winner of the bidding will become the legal owner of the land by September 16.

Thong-urai expects that many real estate companies will be participating in the bidding.

He said the FIDF will make sure there is no political involvement in the auction.

It didn't say, if Khun Ying Potjaman can now bid for the land.

She doesn't have a husband .. particularly one that is the PM, so it is probable that she could bid on it! I don't think her conviction on tax-evasion would prevent her from buying it.

It would certainly be an interesting scenario. Curious to see how, without the benefit of rigging this time, high the bidding goes.

Ironic that the final day of bidding for the auction would have been her last day in prison if she had started her 3 year sentence 3 years ago.

so roughly 26 million u.s. dollars is the expected minimum price for these 13 acres of land in a thirld world city in a thirld world country.

That's alot of e-coli noodle soup to sell to break even on that sale.

What planet are these people from?
