Saudia Arabia suspends recruitment of Indonesian work force

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA (BNO NEWS) -- Saudi Arabian business leaders on Tuesday said they will be suspending the recruitment of Indonesian labor workers, local media reported.

Saudi Arabia's national recruitment committee at the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry said Indonesia's Labor Federation failed to fulfill all of the terms and conditions within the bilateral agreement, which prompted the decision to suspend recruitment, Arab News reported.

Furthermore, the committee advised "Saudis not to apply for new recruitment visas for Indonesia due to exorbitant charges and lack of qualified workers."

Several reports involving harsh abuse against Indonesian labor workers had deteriorated work force relations between the two countries, as international media covered several cases in which abuses led to the death of several workers.

However, Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yahya Maqbool said the ban was not official, blaming Indonesian media for covering incidents of abuse and not success stories.
