Malaysian Airlines flight makes emergency landing in New Delhi, India

2011-02-21 10:21:33 GMT+7 (ICT)

NEW DELHI, INDIA (BNO NEWS) -- A Malaysian Airlines flight carrying 158 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing in New Delhi, India on Sunday after one of the aircraft's engine failed shortly after taking off, the Times of India reported.

The flight took off from New Delhi at around 1:10 p.m. local time - after a 25 minute delay - and was headed toward Malaysia's capital of Kuala Lumpur. However, two hours after its departure, the aircraft's pilot advised New Delhi's air traffic control of the failing engine and began guiding the plane back to the airport.

Taking the shortest possible route, the plane was able to land safely at around 3 p.m. local time.

No injuries were reported, but Malaysia Airlines apologized to its passengers and assured the aircraft would be thoroughly inspected.

So two hours after take-off "at around 1.10p.m. local time ", the pilot calls ATC and begins to return to New Dehi, yet manages to land safely "at around 3.00 p.m. local time", ie before he turned round, two hours' flight away ?

Time-travel ... only-available on Malaysian Airlines ! Or poor reporting/editing, one fears. :o

All the newswires are quoting the same dodgy statement. Probably something more along the lines of this will come out soon.

Flight XYZ... returned to NDIA after a sensor on one of the airplane's 4 engines indicated a problem about 1 hour after take-off. The plane returned safely about 1 hour later...at 310pm..

The other thing is the current time in New Delhi is 10:17 Monday (IST) - Time in New Delhi, Delhi, India - this is yesterday's news apparently. Got to stop following those USA feeds I guess.

Airbus A330-300. MH pilot had it under control and was most likely doing a checklist with his command center in KUL and with Tolouse France which monitors the AB.

Much ado about nothing. MH is one of the world's better airlines.
