After only 8 years living in the country I can't manage a stereotype of ANY large group of Thais, like in all places they are people and like all people they are all different.

I can (and often do) buy into the stereotypes of some smaller groups of Thais (and have those stereotype smashed regularly. This includes the BiB, the Army, the folks that make their livings from tourists etc ....

I can help you out here

Buddhist monks tend to wear orange, have very little hair on their heads and a tendency to chant for hours on end.

One group stereotyped for you!

As to the OP, what are you on man!

This must rate as the longest and strangest post ever on TV (or can you link to a weirder one?)

:) But I know many Buddhist monks that wear red (meditative) or brown (Santi Asoke) .... the bald at least once a month thing seems to hold true though!

Sorry to keep asking questions, but how long have you lived here full-time? How do you have so much info on Thai men?

Maybe he stalks them

Wrong. For any intelligent western man, a year or so, a good opbserver who is using logic in his observations and who is not performing his observations in a night bars(only) should to be enough to see what kind of men they are(most of them, huge majority).

Do you honestly feel that you are capable (after only a year, you say) of coming up with a (massively negative) stereotype of a "huge majority" of Thai men?

That is simply ludicrous.

Yes JD, i am honest when i said that. I have no illusions about it. I needed a year or so to realize that.

A lot of talks with farangs but more with Thais was very useful for me so i could see it is majority.

That is what any Thai man or a woman will confirm to you. Many times happened to me, in those talks, to meet guys who are having more than one wife. it was up to (ridiculous) seven!!!

Another one is having 2 wives in house, i was at his house thinking another one is his sister in law.

Above all, and funniest thing, they were so proud in telling me that. I was shocked. One asked me:" Can you do that?" I shut my mouth up, didn't want to comment it.

And, most of time an explanation is:"Thai custom, tradition." Still strange way of life, if you ask me.

Regards,

I've lived here for more than 20 years married to a Thai man, speak Thai and have lived in a Thai community for that entire period but he "knows" from his one year of observation.

good luck to you stepenwolf.

Thanks for good wishes. Yes, i realized that is going on in my first year and i was curious to know much more so i was talking about it with THAIS. Most of time. Later, as this is my 5th year, all is just confirmed. More than i thought. THAIS like to make us farangs surprised(about their super potent nature, i guess) and they enjoy when we express we are shocked. Nothing new for me, really.

I just wonder how come in 20 your years, you didn't meet that kind of Thais?

I think you are being played for a fool (that these people you meet VAST MAJORITY) have multiple wives (up to 7) etc ....they are taking the piss with you/having you on. I guess I could leave the math to you and let you think about this VAST majority in light of population density and the number of men vs women in the population ....

And yes ... if you really believe what you are typing then I am shocked at the credulity of some people.

I can only second SBK's sentiments and wish you luck myself.

Methinks you might need it

I read the post....fully understood the message and the observations......found the comment interesting in the way the Op interprets happenings surrounding his topic......he may not be far wrong

What also comes as no surprise is the lack of effort some have put into reading the post.....perhaps this goes someway to explaining why many appear to think a long length of time is to be spent it Thailand to learn about Thai people. Perhaps it is not the period of time that dictates your appreciation and comprehension of your varied experiences but your ease of absorbing the detail and the effort you employ to do so.

I had no difficulty in understanding the story.

Just one point...if the child's Mother and Father were not married at Amphur...the mother has sole custody of the child.

The father CANNOT take the child away from the mother, without either the mother's permission...or the consent of the family court.

You have outlined a reasonable hypothesis, which may or may not apply to your former situation.

You had to deal with ONE situation..and it's inappropriate to extapolate that to Thai men in general.

It may not apply to ANY other Thai guy.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time.

Obviously the Mother does not like being a mia noi...who does?...and an offer from a falang, may be enough to pull her away from the Thai guy.

But three months together is NOT going to make her feel safe enough to jettison her paying husband.

If you want to pursue that woman...take her out of Thailand.

You will need to go to Amphur with two friends, and those friends will need to attest to the fact that she is the kid's Mother, and that nobody knows where the Father can be found.

You can then get passport for the kid.

I've already done all that stuff.

But give it time...a lot more time.

Sleep alone if you have to.

Yes..you will need to want that woman badly.

And she can see you don't have enough committment...which is understandable after only 12 weeks

Thai women are as worried about the future as western women.

Forget the Thai guy...let him do what he wants....just focus on establishing a good relationship with the mother and the kid.

Can you speak Thai..if not..learn...fast.

( The Thai guy may have been reacting as the need arose...maybe he did not have any grand plan.)

I believe, on the basis of what you've written (and congratulations on your English....I cannot write ANY Italian at all)...that you can get her.

I'm sory for my bad english, but i'm from italy..

You could have fared worse.
