September 10, 200520 yr Hiya all I am currently working however the work is temporary contract, as with construction and offshore it tends to be sometimes. The winter is coming near so jobs wind down for the great English snowfall! I will be moving around with agencies doing work in this time. Thus no employer will give a permanent contract letter. However payslips will be ok maybe from employer or agency. What are my options as in putting this to the UK Embassy Bangkok? Thanks for all replys.
September 10, 200520 yr The best you can do, really, is to explain to the embassy in your covering letter that this is the nature of your chosen field adding that, despite flitting from job to job, you fully expect to be in a position to maintain your wife without her having to rely on public funds. If you have any savings, provide evidence of these in order to show that during a lean spell you could still provide support. Scouse.
September 10, 200520 yr Exactly. My work is also somewhat seasonal but my bank statements showed that I earned enough in the busy periods to see us through the quite ones. Remember, they are not looking to see if you earn a fortune, merely enough not to require state aid. I believe the benchmark figure is the income support amount, which, after deducting rent/mortgage etc., is only about £50 a week! Perhaps Scouse can confirm?

Time to add to my letter of intent! Thankyou Again

It must be more if you have a wife and child? Howver I do not pay rent or mortgage, good ol Mum! So what is the overall figure you have to earn? Thanks GU22. Perhaps Scouse can confirm? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be honest, I don't know of any test case which has defined a benchmark figure, although that's not to say one doesn't exist. Certainly when I was an IO/ECO we were told to judge for ourselves what is a reasonable income given the circumstances of the application. Generally speaking, those who were either in work or were unemployed but in a profession where employment is easily found, passed muster, and those who were unemployed with either insufficent savings or on income support, didn't. Scouse.
September 13, 200520 yr Thanks for the clarification, Scouse. The "more than you'd get on income support" reference came from an ECO in Bangkok when I was making my wife's application, I've always wondered how official it was. Howver I do not pay rent or mortgage, good ol Mum! So what is the overall figure you have to earn?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Get your Mum in her offer accommodation letter that you will not be paying any rent.So what is the overall figure you have to earn? There is no set figure, just show that you can support and accommodate yourselves without reliance on public funds.Calm down, you are worrying over nothing.

The wages here in the UK are terrible at the moment thats what worries me more. Part time hours and no definite longterm contract...Was better off teaching in the LOS...Blighty sucks, but have to do it eh!
September 18, 200520 yr As do all self-employed, if they've any sense, my accounts show that my income after business expenses is as low as I can (legally) get it. It was, of course, these accounts that I had to show to the embassy, and they showed that my average annual income, before tax, was about £11k. £11k to support a wife and child, doesn't seem much, does it? I still got a settlement visa for my wife and step-daughter at the first attempt and the actual interview itself lasted all of 5 minutes! I can understand your nerves, especially if, like I had to be, you are in the UK, but just try and relax. From what you've said in your posts, you've got it covered.
