Denver Nuggets trade Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks in 9-player deal

2011-02-22 12:16:52 GMT+7 (ICT)

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- NBA all-star forward Carmelo Anthony on Monday night was traded to the New York Knicks in a nine-player blockbuster deal that also involved several draft picks, after six months of rumors and trade talks, the NBA's official site reported.

The final piece in the trade was the inclusion of 24-year-old, 7-foot rookie Timofey Mozgov from Russia. The Denver Nuggets will also be getting forwards Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler, point guard Raymond Felton, the Knicks' 2014 first-round draft pick, and their 2012 and 2013 second-round draft picks, which were originally from the Golden State Warriors. They will also be reportedly receiving $3 million in cash.

In addition to Anthony, the Knicks will be receiving point guards Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter, center Shelden Williams, and forward Renaldo Balkman, who was originally drafted into the NBA by New York.

Anthony will be joining fellow All-Star Amare Stoudemire, and along with Billups' experience, who won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004, they are bringing high hopes to Knicks' fans who have been long waiting for change.

However, the Knicks are also sending out four of their top six players - three of their starters in Mozgov, Gallinari, and Felton, as well as Chandler, who usually gets starter minutes.

The Nuggets will be receiving four productive players, all under 26 years old, to refresh the team's rebuilding efforts.

Other reports indicate further trade rumors that could take place, involving Mozgov being sent to the New Jersey Nets, which were purchased by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov before the start of the season.
