BUTNER, NORTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) -- Disgraced financier Allen Stanford has been moved to a prison hospital in North Carolina where he is believed to undergo treatment for his addiction to anti-anxiety medication, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) said on Tuesday.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said Stanford, who is charged in a multi-billion fraud case, said he is currently housed at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) of Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina. FMC Butner is located near the Research Triangle area of Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill.

FMC Butner is an administrative facility that houses male inmates of all security levels while an adjacent satellite prison camp houses minimum security male inmates. Most notably, FMC Butner is also home to disgraced financier Bernie Madoff, who is serving a 150-year sentence.

According to media reports, Stanford - who is 60 - has become addicted to a powerful anti-anxiety medication since he was jailed in June 2009.
