PHUKET: The Greater Phuket Chapter of AMCHAM Thailand has organized a seminar on the recent changes to the Planning and Environmental Regulations of both Phuket and Phang Nga.

Two keynote speakers, both leading law experts, are featured: Sorachon Boonsong, Partner, Baker & McKenzie Thailand; and Anurag Ramanat, Partner, South Asia Law. Their briefings will be followed by a Question & Answer Session, after which there will be cocktails with a cash bar until 7pm.

The event, expected to be attended largely by members of the public with environmental concerns, as well as tourism and property industry professionals, takes place at the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket.

Registration begins at 4pm, with the formal presentations starting at 4:30.

Attendance is open to the general public. There is a 200-baht participation fee, payable at the door. AMCHAM members enter free of charge.

It would be nice if the environmental minister (whatever he's called) and/or other higher ups in the gov't that weren't in the pockets of the phuket developers would be there. There's so many illegal buildings and developments around. Will there even be gov't officials around that are supposed to be governing this type of thing? It would be nice to hear them talk about "looking into the problems". As it is now it looks like it's a fishing expedition for law firms to drum up more business. I like the concept if gov't and private parties could meet and discuss issues.
