Strong earthquake magnitude 4.6 rocks Laos

Have not seen any mention in the news section

Bangkok (AIT News) – A powerful earthquake has hit Laos on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 10:53 PM.

The quake measured magnitude 4.6. The earthquake struck 101 km (63 miles) E of Muang Nan, Thailand and 587 km (364 miles) NNE of Bangkok, Thailand.

The quake was also felt in the area of northern Thailand bordering Laos.

Yes it was mentioned on the Thai news, both TV & Radio a fair bit today.

One of the Temples in Nan was damaged a fair bit.

The earthquake was apparently 40km's under the surface, which might explain the way it travelled & why damage was limited, espeically compared to the Christchurch one which was apparently only 5km's under.....and slightly more powerful.

Thanks ND

Good to know there was not much damage

I only saw photos of the temple. Of interest to me because I was only there the other day.

I can imagine there would of been more cracks appearing in your average construction up there, but generally nobody gets too worked up about cracks in houses etc
