A Phuket shopkeeper has put up a sign barring Israeli tourists from entering, prompting a strong reaction on Thai social media after Phuket Times shared an image of it on Saturday, August 22.

According to a report from Naewna, the shop owner said the move followed a previous confrontation outside the business. The report did not identify the shop or give its precise location on the island.

Owner says sign is intended to prevent disputes

The shopkeeper said: "I was once verbally abused by Israelis in front of my shop. I cursed back that time, but my intention in putting up the sign is to prevent future problems arising from among #Israeli tourists."

Phuket Times had previously said it was preparing to submit a letter to authorities seeking an investigation into Israeli nationals at Patong beach. It cited alleged widespread dissatisfaction with what it called "arrogant" behaviour, including claims that locals had been chased away and outsiders barred from an area believed to have been acquired through nominee networks.

Online commenters call for wider action

After the image was posted, commenters backed the shopkeeper's decision. Some wrote that preventing problems early was the right approach, while others said they would do the same.

Other comments urged similar action across Phuket, with one saying shops should follow suit "until every shop in Phuket is affected". That comment said Thais should not allow foreigners to take advantage of or bully them, and should not welcome people with bad manners.

Several commenters called for Thai unity. Others said government agencies were weak and ordinary people had to protect themselves, while another said Phuket residents should unite because police, local administration and ISOC could not be relied upon.

One final comment urged people to "resist strongly", adding: "If you weaken, you will end up like the Palestinians."

Awesome that Thai people goes together against the filth and bad mannered people who thinks they can set up their own rules in Thailand. Out with all the pack, and yes! They should be barred from entering any place in Thailand.

An interesting article.

To state the obvious, from the article, Thai social media users are divided on the issue of Israeli "visitors" in Thailand. Nevertheless, if the article is accurate, there seems to be a growing anti-Israeli sentiment is Thailand.

On another social media platform, some of my Jewish friends have posted to the effect - I am Jewish, but I am anti-Zionist, and I do not support the actions and policies of the current Israeli government, and I support the people of Palestine. Will any Israelis in Thailand follow suit?

It's vigilanti style, but you do what you have to do. The bars like Pattaya Walking Street and others work together for common security and to protect themselves, their businesses and their employees from harm. When there is trouble the security guards call out to those at other bars to come and help. And they do. Quickly. No reason shop keepers couldn't do the same. Maybe a flashing red light outside the shop when trouble is happening inside? Something visible to other shopowners that they need help.

This should happen .

Not one or two shops that can be targeted.

If all of them do it, less risk of retaliation and it sends a strong message.

Phuket shop has a sign "Not accepting Jews" after their bad behavior. They clearly announced that they will not sell it to Israeli people after causing problems, challenging, chasing away people in the area. "I was scolded by L guys in front of the store. That time, I scolded back, but my intention is to prevent problems that will be encountered in the Jewish people group.

Thing is Thais likely know very little about Israel, so they are not likely to be 'antisimetic'. They just know from first hand experience these particular tourists from this country have a track record of being disrespectful to them.

Antisemitism will never go away because jews are ethno-centrists. They will ALWAYS support their own tribe members over anyone outside the group. When they say that one jewish tear is worth 10k palestinian lives, they mean it, same as how someone wouldn't trade their child for 10k strangers. The problem with that is that jews expect everyone else to be pluralists while they get to be the only particularists in the world. Anyone supporting THEIR own group over jews gets labeled a viscious antisemite.

From what I have seen in Samui the last few days, I can say I can't blame the shop keeper at all. The most ignorant people I have seen, add some self entitlement to that.

Israel brings in a lot of Thai workers, well, they should stop.
