One Palestinian killed in Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza Strip

GAZA STRIP (BNO NEWS) -- Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday informed that an airstrike operation was executed in the northern Gaza Strip in response to a rocket fire on southern Israel on Wednesday night.

During the overnight operation one Palestinian militant was killed and several injured. The airstrike was conducted by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) and targeted several terror hubs in the Gaza Strip.

On Wednesday evening, a group of terrorists fired rockets front the northern Gaza Strip to the city of Be'er Sheva and other Western Negev communities in southern Israel. One of the rockets hit a house in a residential neighborhood.

"The IDF will respond with diligent force to anyone who uses terror against the State of Israel and will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens or IDF soldiers," read a statement released by the IDF.

The retaliation airstrike was part of the IDF's objective of "determinately and forcefully defend against those who attempt to harm Israeli citizens." In addition, IDF held Hamas responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and any terrorist attack emanating from the area.

Also on Wednesday, eleven people were injured, including three members of an armed group and three children, after Israeli troops fired artillery shells into the eastern Gaza Strip.

The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, shot two mortar shells at an Israeli force entering the Gaza Strip. The shells were fired as allegedly four Israeli bulldozers and four tanks were preparing to tear-up agricultural lands along the occupied border zone.
