Gunmen attack two NATO trucks in Pakistan

2011-02-28 06:02:13 GMT+7 (ICT)

KARACHI (BNO NEWS) -- Unidentified gunmen in Pakistan on Sunday attacked two container trucks carrying supplies to NATO troops in Afghanistan, police said, continuing a series of similar attacks against NATO vehicles.

The attack happened near Mangochar in Kalat district of Balochistan Province, not far from the border with Afghanistan. Officials said the truck drivers were approached by gunmen on motorcycles who told them to exit their vehicles before setting them on fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the attack, although the supplies the trucks were carrying were lost. It was not immediately clear which group was behind the arson, but police have opened an investigation.

The frequent attacks on trucks carrying supplies for troops have led the NATO alliance to rely on other supply routes, including through countries north of Afghanistan. In 2010, more than 170 supply vehicles were torched and six people, most of them drivers, were killed.
