AyG
Since you've got 8 years to go before the eldest child starts university, investment in equity-based mutual funds would be the way to go. There is a risk that the value you get back might be less than you put in. However, if you want to go with something completely safe, such as a bank deposit account, inflation will eat away the value of what you put in anyway. Since expenditure will be in Baht, your investments should be focussed around Thai domestic equities. In my opinion, Aberdeen (http://www.aberdeen-asset.co.th) is probably the best of the locally marketed fund houses. You might consider splititng your investments something like: 40% Aberdeen Siam Leaders Fund 15% Aberdeen Small Cap Fund 20% Aberdeen Asia Pacific Equity Fund 25% Aberdeen World Opportunities Fund Then, after 5 years, sell 20% of each investment every year and put the money in a bank deposit account to protect you against the effect of a sudden stockmarket crash.
