Anyone know where I can buy real wood stain? Everything I have seen in the past couple of years is basically urethane or laquer with "stain" in it. I'm looking for a few gallons of dark stain to apply to various wood projects and then seal with teak oil - which I did find.

Have car, will travel.

Thanks!

Oh how I sympathize with you. I looked for a couple of years before finding the right combination. Our local craftsmen couldn't understand why I didn't like the shiny orange looking lacquer on everything. I hadn't discovered True Value then. Furniture makers around Chiang Mai seem to have a better idea of finishes, especially the matt red cedar or mahogany ones. Be careful of teak oils - there are genuine ones and mixtures that just discolour what you are doing. Good luck.

In the end, I think I'll take the small cans of shoe polish and dissolve in the alcohol they use to make "Whiskey Thai!" Unfortunately, the workers might not know whether to wipe it on the floor or drink it.

Probably have to make extra...
