Ac Ryan Playon Hd2

Featured Replies

I am looking for the best media streamer set up for my house and so far the AC Ryan seems to be the best option.Currently I have 3 TV's each with their own external harddrives connected with USB, however keeping them synced is a tiresome process.

From my understanding I can buy 1 AC Ryan HD2 connected to a harddrive and then link is with 2 smaller players in each of the other rooms to read the content from one place. Total cost looks to be around 12k for all the kit.

Does anyone use this system or a different set up that is maybe better?

I use Popcorn Hour media players with a central NAS to stream the data to each room which works well.

I did look at the AC Ryan for my 2nd device, and was very close to buying one but because I already had a jukebox GUI set up for the Popcorn I decided against it.

To stream media to multiple rooms you ideally need a wired Ethernet connection back to a central switch and a NAS.

Wireless does not have the bandwidth for some high definition movies, and you will get stuttering.

One system which I have not tried but looks interesting is the Netgear Media players. They have a "follow me" feature which allows you to switch the movie you are playing to another room and continue from the same point without having to search or fast forward

Due to the fact that my wife and daughters are unable o look after DVD's I always insist on ripping any new disk to the NAS before they watch it, and then it is stored and viewable throughout the house by all without the danger of getting damaged.

I have both a AC Ryan Playonhd mini and a WD Live, both updated with latest firmware. I would take the WD Live over the AC any day. The WD has much better design of the software/interface and the AC sometimes have some weird problems connecting to network resources, particularly Win7.

Thanks for the advice, where did you get the WD Live?, just looked at it and does everything I need so think that is a good option.

I got it in Banana IT in Central, Pattaya, but I've seen them many places, they're quite easy to find.

I like the WD Live remote. Why do you think it is terrible. Small, practical, well laid out.

One of my main gripes with the AC is their big, clunky remote with a million buttons, most of which are never used, and all of which seem to be arranged completely random without any logic.

WD remote buttons are very bad, it is like a toy made of bad quality chinese plastic.

Full sized remotes are better, at least you can adjust volume, fast forward more easily (enter time etc). I hear AC Ryan has good reputation in remotes.

Love my HD TV Live remote!

My system is composed by 3 WDTV Live in 3 TV on 2 floors, wired by LAN, with a PC with 2 HDD with total 3 TB sharing their contents, mostly Full HD or 720p. Easy and wonderful system.

PS All the HDD contents are legit :whistling:

+1 on the WD Live. I really like mine, glad I bought it.

The remote is just fine, does everything needed.

And I wouldn't expect to find volume controls on a player remote. The volume is a function of the TV itself, not the peripheral.

Nothing wrong with the WDHD remote for me either.
