Thai mystery hotel death toll jumps to four

A fourth person has secretly died at a Thai hotel where last week two British pensioners were found dead in separate beds.

After an earlier incident in which a 23-yr-old New Zealand woman was taken fatally ill with supposed ‘toxic poisoning’ Thai police today admitted today that in fact there was also a FURTHER earlier incident just days before in which a Thai guest also died.

The admission came after a complaint from a foreign guest who saw a body on a stretcher being dragged down the fire escape of the Downtown Inn in Chiang Mai, across the hotel’s pool area, which had been temporarily closed, and into an ambulance of a local foundation. [more...]

Maybe the hotel has a carbon monoxide issue?

Britishers 78 and 73 'theoretically' died of heart attacks from having sex together, but were found in separate beds. Dual simultaneous heart attacks, what are the odds....but one found the strength to climb back in their own bed to finish dying.... but never called for help....

Do the Thai police really think most people are that stupid,

or does this obfuscation only need to fool their bosses?

I stayed in this hotel 3 years ago,

but moved out pretty quickly as it was not particularly nice in any way.

Well, let's look at it from a Thai viewpoint.

One possible explanation is that the foreigners ('falang') committed suicide because they had problems, which is not good for Thailand's image as #1 tourist destination. Keeping it secret is the order of the day.

Another possible explanation is that the foreigners ('falang') committed suicide because they wanted to waste the time of the Royal Thai Police, thereby keeping them from doing useful things, e.g. playing video games.

Then there's this possibility...

After all, those 'falang' are all sexmaniacs. Keeping the incidents a secret is the order of the day, in order to protect Thailand's image as The Morality Hub of the World.

There is also the possibility that the hotel is haunted by a ghost (possible brought in by 'falang'), killing the bad people (='falang') first. This is a catastrophe for the hotel as no-one will want to work there anymore. Keeping this a secret is the order of the day.

Also, all those 'farang' have bad karma and/or are members of a mafia so they, perhaps, died because of their viciousness. Again the high regard that Thailand has in the world should not be sullied, so keeping this a secret is the order of the day.

Next they will be trying to tell us that a Japanese photographer was killed by an AK47 after having the body for 8 months and telling us it was an M16, and then changing to an AK47 after a visit from the army chief.

Downtown Inn? Seems to me all these unexplained deaths are a result of ..... wait and see. The Thai Police are very accurate in solving mysterious deaths.

Most of them

In the States, they attact interstate tourists with Ghost haunting, mysterious creatures, aliens, ets.... In thailand, we attract tourists with mysterious deaths in hotels....

I hope they claer all of this up before Abhisit's Quality tourists get here.

Too much work to investigate, besides there are more "interesting things" unrelated to police work to do.

So why has this hotel not been closed down while investigations are ongoing? Like Tokay said, sounds like a possible Carbon monoxide problem. This is not unheard of, maybe the water is heated by gas burners and this system is leaking CO1 into a few of the rooms. This would be almost impossible to detect without a CO1 detector.

Also, why is it taking so long to get post mortem results?.. In the west the results are usually available and made public within a few days at the most. The Thais have the same sciences and equipment available to them as the west.

I am thinking that whatever it is. The entire Thai authorities involved from the top down will bend over backwards to shield the hotel from any blame in fear of it sparking bad international press about their perfect tourism industry and hotel infrastructure. With its impressive health & safety record.

God forbid the tourism companies such as Agoda and Thomas Cook etc would have to start thinking twice about sending western tourists here.

A somewhat similar situation in USA. Used to be that 50% of all deaths received a medical autopsy ... today it is 5%. And most coroners are political appointees and are not medically trained. Thus it is getting easier and easier to get away with murder in USA.

I know this will sound insensitive, but I found myself laughing out loud while reading the report. 'Secretly died' Well there's an unfortunate turn of phrase. Then we have the body being smuggled down the stairwell and across the pool into a waiting ambulance, this is indeed high farce worthy of pantomime.

On a more serious note we know that the Thai police will be incapable and probably unwilling to investigate after no doubt a pu yaay has paid then a seriously large administration fee to file this case as closed. I imagine the sign writers are busy re-badging the hotel at this moment - nothing to see here, anyone for Elephant trecking?

Are you serious? They will close it when the low season hits full swing. Thai's aren't going to shut up shop just because a few farangs died the rooms are probably already booked and that is revenue. I bet they charged the victims credit cards also for the room cleaning.

There's loads coming! 14.8 million, 15.5 million, hang on, now it's 15.8 million last year! Record numbers according to this government!

Because, as the article says, "Its dangerous to jump to conclusions".

Alternatively, its not dangerous to leave a hotel open where at least 4 people had mysteriously died in less than a month... Hmmmm
