Changing A Tourist Visa To Non B

Featured Replies

Hi again all, hope your all tickin along ok in LOS.

I was one of the unfortunate people who recently travelled to Penang to renew my Non B visa only to be told I don't have a WP3 form. Consequently I was granted a 2 month tourist visa, and now I am working without a non B and waiting to get it all sorted via the legal channels.

My agency are now trying to organise a WP3 and new letter so I can return to Penang and go through the process again.

People have told me there is a process where I can change my tourist visa to a Non B within LOS without having to go back to Penang again. Can somebody tell me how? What's the cost? etc.

"Indo-Siam"(Steve) if your reading. My agency called your company (Khun Beer) and they were suspicious about it. They also are suspicious about how much this process will cost going through an "agent" of some kind. Not being critical about yr company, this is just what my agency told me. Can you give me any more detail on the process and costs as I am inclined to believe your words more than my agency, that's if they even called them in the first place.

Nice day folks!

Sh**t!!

Thanks Lop.......think I'll just go to Penang again, it's not such a bad place and it'll be a nice little change from LOS for a few days.

Documents Evidence Of Education

The one key is with the change of Tourist to a Non B. This department requires that the applicants school diploma has been certified by the applicants Embassy, if it is in a language other than English, it must be translated first to English and then notarized.

After the diploma has been notarized then it has to be translated to Thai and then certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Labor Dept itself could care less about the diploma unless you are a teacher.

The W.P.3 form also does not require the diploma with the exception of teachers. If you are an teacher you need the diploma, certificate letter from the Office of the private Education Commission ( Soo-Cho)/The ministry of university affairs, copy of the teachers license ( Shoo-Cho 11) and a copy of the teacher placement license ( Shoo-Cho18) as well as the copy of the license of the school establishment, the copy of the license of the head teacher and copy of the license of the school manager/ A copy of the license of the university and a copy of documents showing the person signing, has that right to sign on behalf of the school.

Sounds to me like a trip to Penang would be easier provided that you can get your paperwork in order for them.

When I read stuff like this list of requirements for changing a TR visa to a non-immigrant 'B' visa, I don't get the impression that the powers-that-be have any genuine desire to actually do so. It's as though they require this mountain of paperwork so as to dissuade one from pursuing this route.

This department requires that the applicants school diploma has been certified by the applicants Embassy

What does that mean? Certified that the copy of the degree is a real copy of the degree? Do embassies know what that means when you ask them to do it?
