8-9 Day Overstay - What Are The Options?

Featured Replies

I have just met someone who has a ticket to return to Australia either 8 or 9 days after his current 60 day tourist visa expires (it wasn't clear whether it would be 8 or 9 days, but my guess is the answer will be the same). This hapless guy is scared pretty badly and hasn't the slightest idea what to do. I know he is pretty safe overstaying up to a week, but I don't know what to tell him about longer. Also, since he already is 2 days into overstay mode, I am guessing that going for an extension at immigration is NOT an option. Can anyone give me some good advice to pass on? Thanks.

Extension of 30 days is possible in Phuket - pay 2 days (or how ever many he has) overstay & extend for 30 @ 1900 baht - sorted jap.gif

Will there be a problem showing up at immigration when he is already in overstay mode? I know it is ok at the airport, but I thought going to immigration might be teh same as turning himself in!

I should have also explicidly asked: Am I right that he would be in big trouble if he just shows up at the airport with over a week's overstay? Any thoughts on that?

He should have applied for the 30 day extension before overstaying.

Maybe better to wait until he leaves and pay the 4,500 Baht overstay fine at the airport.

Why pay overstay at airport and stay illegal ?? Immigration, pay o/s and extension, may be slightly more, but keeps him legal jap.gif
