Extradition of Phuket ‘kickbox killer’ suspect ‘may take years’

PHUKET: The City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London has told the Gazette that the extradition hearing of British national Lee Aldhouse “can take months or years”.

Aldhouse remains wanted in Thailand for the stabbing murder of American Dashawn Longfellow in Rawai in August last year.

However, court official Russel Sykes said the former kickboxer remains remanded in custody at Wandsworth Prison in England until March 28, when he is to once again appear in the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The hearing, scheduled at 10am, is marked “for review”, Mr Sykes said.

Aldhouse previously appeared in the same court on February 1 and March 1.

“Extraditions can take months or years, [it] depends on the legal argument,” Mr Sykes said.

It will never happen due to Thailand having the death penalty.

All a country has to do is to ensure that the death penalty will not be asked for and there is no reason not to extradite to Thailand for fear of the death penalty.

I will never happen, nothing to do with the death penalty as it can be waived but it will still never happen. Not now, not ever. The British Government are just going through the motions with this, they know it will never happen too, this will drag out for years and end up in the European Court of Human Rights, then in the end he won't be extradited.

As much as I would like to see him extradited I have to agree with your assessment. After all, the poor fellow's human right may be violated in a Thai prison...

What about the human rights of the stabbed American? Surely the guy should be extradited and the evidence tested. The UK can demand that the death penalty not be applied before they agree to extradition.

Thai Jail might be worse than the death penalty, :D

I don't think there is a statute in the UK that wont allow extradition based on a country having the death penalty. but saying that has anyone ever heard of a non Thai getting death?

That is just your wishful thinking.

There are many reasons that anybody on European soil would not be extradited to Thailand . 1 of which is the inhumane way that prisoners are kept in Thailand. So do you think the Thais are going to bring all their prisons up to a standard that suits ?

There is also a big question mark as to the abuse of prisoners in Thai prisons.

The food they are given is not fit so falls well short of standards set within human rights.

He is not coming back here that's for sure. The Thais are just going through the motions so they can say to USA that they did all they could

I am presuming "presuming" that he was on Yabba when he did the killing, so if he stays in British custody he will be denied the little red sweeties but if he is allowed to do his time in a Thai prison he will be able to get his hands on the moral deadening drugs so will not feel any remorse whatsoever. I always thought the idea of prison time is to have time to feel remorse and shame.

So personally I would not care where he does his time as long as its a long long time for the victims families sake.

But if is is extradited I personally would be quite happy to see him executed.

One question though is: why is the victims family not pushing for extradition to the states, where there will be enough big bullies around him to make him feel very sorry for himself ?

What has the USA got to do with a murder committed in Thailand?? other than the victim being American. As for him being bullied, it seems that he can take care of himself physically

never ever, the Uk will never send a citizen to a country like thailand where the law is very flexible and the charges carry the death penalty

impossible, that never happend and will never happen

if its a crime not carrying the death sentence extradition might be possible, but i doubt the capabilities of the Thai authorthys involved...also who will pay the corrupt Thai police?

Send him to Thailand for trial and if he is found guilty, then you can send him back to the UK to serve his time in suitable accommodations at the UK taxpayers' expense.

Just cannot be done . It would breach his human rights to send him to Thailand . The prisons are shitholes & they abuse prisoners . The only time he will do is the time he is doing now which will end with the extridition refusal (failure)

He will be free soon .

Why do you think he headed straight back to UK ?
