im planing to travel with my son (he has a thai mother) to germany soon and will stay there with him for a while... his mum will stay here in thailand..

(he is 1 year 9 months )

does anybody know, what kind of documents are required for the thai immigration/check in at airport??

he is holding a german plus thai passport already! somebody told me that i need to go to the amphoe to get some paperwork done there!?

(mother has to agree and confirm that she is willing to let our child travelling alone with me to germany..)

you have everything you need.

At BKK Airport

- show airline check-in both passports. Thai one tells them he needs a departure card, German one tells them he doesn't need a visa to enter Germany/EU.

- Fill in departure card

- Go to immigration. Show 1) Thai passport 2) filled in departure card 3) boarding pass. He will be stamped out on Thai passport.

In Germany

- Enter on German passport.

i went to the amphur/amphoe today with my son and girlfriend and all the documents (tabia baan, copy passport, birthcertificate, paternity etc.)

there they issued a letter/document which my girlfriend plus boss from amphoe did sign.. (and they also put all data in the computer/system..)

the paper saying that my girlfriend agree to let my son travel with me alone to germany and let him stay there with me unlimited!

this official letter/document is free of charge and done in 10 minutes, so no problem at all!

i guess travelling without a document like this is not a really good idea...! never know, if thai immigration/authorities going to ask..!

It seems you are not maried to the mother, so as far as Thai law is concerned you are not the legal fahter of the child and would indeed need permission to take the child abroad.

Normally a copy of the birth certificate is enough, If you are listed on there as the fahter. But the official letter would sure not hurt and is much better.

The Amphur is not a court! But if you really did go to court it seems you did legalize the child and are the legal father. As such you don't need permission from the mother to take the child with you, as there are no parental kidnapping laws in Thailand.

Note that you can use the passport lines for Thais is you travel with the child on is Thai passport. Might save some times in the passport line.

The OP's all set, but I wanted to point out that I'd received advice that I would need a letter of permission from the mother to travel with our son even though I'm on the birth certificate.

I believe the "no parental kidnapping" bit is true, however that just means one wouldn't be prosecuted as a kidnapper. My understanding is that it's possible for Immigration at departure to make trouble for a foreigner taking a child out without its mother.

I've posted this to help other readers and future googlers to avoid possible problems; if anyone is sure I'm wrong please chime in, but IMO being overly cautious is better than not, if she'll sign such a letter why not?

Always get the permission letter (certified as you have done) and ensure there is a continuity trail as to the childs family names and the person escorting and the documentation. A Birth Certifcate is not enough even if you are listed as the father.

If you are flying Lufthansa especially.

Work wise I have had this problem before and the i's need dotting the t's need crossing if you get the wrong person at check in. There was even a mention of it on a factual TV show last year.

All I can add is that when I took my God Son to the USA with me WITHOUT a notarized letter from his parent I (along with my God Son) was detained at immigration for 2 hours. What a mistake!!! This was a traumatic event for the poor 9 year old. American Immigration emphasized how important it is to HAVE THE DOCUMENT NOTARIZED. Ultimately they let us go (because we had traveled together before as proven in our passports) and we had no further problems. Good luck...
