I use to enjoy the salad bar too, but after discovering A Salad Concept at Nimenhaemin and the new Coco Salad in San Sai, where in both cases you get a superior salad for less than half the price, I'll never go back to a Sizzler for salad. The main courses I've had at the Sizzler weren't bad - but I agree they really are over-priced.

I somehow agree with you. OVERPRICED and food not up to the standard.

I have this thought and seen a lot of locals daily activities and expenses. Most Thai especially living in countryside, they don't travel often and of course they don't see a lot of things around. Those Exported items, Foreign brands and Expensive food to them is consider HI-SO...... So all this restaurants like Sizzler pricing this amount, it's mainly for Tourists. When you say you had meal in Sizzler today to anyone in your hometown, it's just a normal meal......and if you tell someone in countryside you had a lunch in sizzler, they will say...........WOWWWW.

I am not trying to be sarcastic because my wife's a Thai.....but in real life, this is the case. So paying 1000 baht for a meal in Chiang Mai, I personally feel it's a waste of money and you don't even enjoying it. For this 1000 baht, you can eat many many delicious meal !!! IMHO

Jeez. When I go to Sizzler I see lots of Thai people eating & enjoying themselves.

The prices are not too bad. I think the salald bar is about 159 for all you can eat & that includes soup pasta fruits & dessert.

Methinks a lot of this is anti-American food snobbery. Enjoy your 35 baht rice noodles. Bon Apetit.

Overpriced would be eating in France England or Germany.

It's overpriced for Chiang Mai. The basic salads at A Salad Concept cost 50 baht and at Coco Salad 70 baht. After finishing a salad at either place one does not feel less than completely satisfied. This has nothing at all to do with anti-American food snobbery. The Sizzler chain of restaurants in the States is not considered very high quality, but has greater status in Thailand. It's the same as with the Toyota Camry - in the States a very average car, but in Thailand it's a luxury vehicle.

Worst meal in Chiang Mai. The Vietnamese Restaurant just down from the Dukes. 4 long time married couples of Chiang Mai some 4 years ago and we have not been back.:bah:

I like that place. It's very popular with the Thai business lunch set.

I don't go there since they raised their prices considerably, but their terriyaki cheeseburger is very good for this part of the world and some other stuff is OK.

I do not think that it is worth the money, but IMHO there is far worse food in Chiang Mai.

Sizzler's salad bar is OK sometimes, but it sounds like A Salad Concept might be a better choice in the Huay Kaew area.

To say where I had my worst meal ever, I would have to go into details, which would be naming and shaming the restaurant. I thought naming and shaming was a sensitive issue on this forum and since my worst meal ever was some time back, there's no point in mentioning it now.

So for now my worst meal ever was when my wife had a go at making a roast dinner, I had difficulty swallowing the huge lumps of gravy (among other things).

Even McDonalds is somewhat hiso here. I was in BKK in a wealthier neighborhood and there were crowds of people driving BMW's, Mercedes and the like eating at McDonalds. Sizzler was the in place to eat about 10 years ago. It still hasn't lost that reputation and now the middle class families eat there in droves. I will never eat that garbage but I don't eat at any chain restaurants.

Places like Crispy Creme in the states is a redneck haven, but in BKK I saw lines of 100's of people circled out of the mall and into the street just to buy donuts. Some people were waiting several hours. One woman I know bought 2 boxes and had them flown to CM for her family to enjoy. I think that is a little insane. But new trends are fashionable and the wealthy here are no different than anywhere else. They like their image and to live extravagantly in their own concept.

As for the OP I cannot have any sympathy for someone who eats at a chain dive resturaunt and then complains. It would be one thing if you went to a 3 star or above place but going to a one star chain and then complaining is redundant.

I think it's O.K. The salad bar is not bad. Thais absolutely love the place. They can't get enough of the imported beef. I've only had Thai beef a couple of times and it was like shoe leather so I can see why it is so popular with the Thais. We had to wait an hour for a table for 8 people when we went to the Sizzler at Lee Gardens in Hat Yai. It seemed quite the place to go for dinner even with the Chinese tourists.

I agree with Loaded. That Vietnamese restaurant is probably the fastest service restaurant I've experienced anywhere and the food is consistently good. Plus the price is very reasonable. But everyone has different tastes.

The last Sizzler I ate at was in Bangkok 15 years ago.

I thought it was a good meal :)

Same experience, it was quite good that time in Bkk.

Later the menus became huge pretentious art books, prices almost doubled and the steaks lost half of it's size and quality.

It must have gone into Thai hands then, lol

Complaining about Sizzler is like complaining about Thai "wine" or about eating tripe. Cr*p is cr*p, no big surprise.

Sizzler has already been through bankruptcy and is still struggling. Perhaps people don't like eating overpriced cr*p in a soulless setting.

As Rousseau said of a great princess; "let them eat crap" huh.gif

Nothing wrong with Sizzler's. The salad bar is good value, considering the pasta, soup and fruit is included. Having said that I'm sure the specialist salad bars are very good.

The steaks for around 700 BHT are very good. The salad bar is good.

Had some awful experiences with their special offers - anything cheap at Sizzler's is going to be crap. I imagine the pretty expensive burgers (350 baht? ) must be good, but why would I ever if I have the Duke's.

So bottom line is, if you want to get a good steak, you have to pay for it, and Sizzler's is as good a place for that as any other.

And while Sizzler's might be overpriced, it's certainly not the worst meal in CM. Have you ever had a Lasagna that was in fact some sort of soup with cheese on it? See? ;)

Edit: Salad Concept is way better for salad but it's also pretty new; not too long ago Sizzler was one of the very few places with good salad in Thailand. And they must be doing something right, the Airport location is always packed.

I would like to reply but some of the places are advertisers here.

Come on, that does not matter !

If Sizzler would be advertising on this forum, that would mean it's not allowed to discuss their quality anymore ?

Then, if that known lady with her scam travel agency would be advertising here, just to protect herself from discussions etc. ?

That would be pretty suspicious...
