Multiple Maps On Garmin Nuvi 215W

Featured Replies

I have a Garmin Nuvi 215W bought in Thailand with the official ERSI maps.

I have the latest version firmware and English map on the units internal memory which works fine. I also wanted to have the Thai map for those times when trying to work out how they spell something in English is too difficult. I downloaded the Thai language map from my account on GPSociety and copied it to a memory card. I named the map 'gmapsupp.img' and placed it on a folder named 'Garmin' on the SD card.

Now when I boot the unit the map defaults to the Thai language map. When I go to the tools -> map -> Map Info I can not select between the English and Thai maps. The screen shows the Thai map next to the check box, then underneath and indented is says [1] ALL [2] Thailand (...) [Eng] ALL

I would like to be able to switch between Thai and English maps without removing the SD card each time. Is this possible?

You cannot have two separate ESRI Thailand Street Maps (TSM) with the same map ID number on your Garmin GPS. TSM V11 Dual is a dual language version that you can switch between the Thai or English maps. TSM V11 Dual shows up as a single map on 'Map Info'. TSM V11 Dual comes with the Garmin 3770, not sure if it would work with the 215W.

Thanks. That map is not available to download from my GPSociety account so maybe it doesn't work. I guess I will have to pop the memory card in and out when I want to use the Thai map.

So that is a 100% dual language system ? That would be good for my gf as she constantly complains that the maps are not good and we cant find a single street in english.
