Ministry warns against 'nuke fallout' pills

By The Nation

The Public Health Ministry has issued warnings about buying fake potassium iodide from websites, saying the "nuke pills" are necessary only for people in danger areas.

"People not in areas of high radiation, or passengers not travelling into risk areas in northern Japan, should not take potassium iodide against radiation poisoning, as it could pose thyroid gland health risks," Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said.

The ministry's warning about unnecessary potassium iodide intake came after widespread fear of fallout from the radiation leak at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan.

Jurin said the pills would be made available only to travellers to risky areas in northern Japan, and they would be only be given out by the ministry.

A C-130 aircraft yesterday brought home 46 passengers from Japan to Bangkok.

I fully support the Ministry's warnings. Fake anything should not be consumed. But, there is more to be said about iodine supplementation. Do a little research so that you have knowledge of oral iodine, i.e. what type IS safe to consume, what potency is safe for non-emergency use, and the various benefits of it to your body metabolism. Look for "nascent" iodine. It might be available retail in quality health food stores in the Bangkok area, but do your homework before shopping! Certainly not available in my rural area. Most human beings are deficient in iodine.

This advice extends to every over-the-counter vitamin, mineral or herbal product. Conventional medicine tend to deny the healing power of these substances, so there is little if any regulation over claims made by manufacturers. But, too much of any substance can be risky. Most OTC products are synthetic and I wouldn't recommend any of them to anyone! Besides risk, they are a false sense security and a waste of money.

If you think you should be reading more about the nuclear radiation risk issue, read an article "Safe as Hell" by Dr. Mark Sircus, MD, which you can obtain at the following :

"Medical News Commentaries" email address: [email protected]. It arrived in my mailbox after my comment above. I don't recommend this article for those wanting to get high (or low) on fear. I do recommend it for those wanting to take leadership action steps to assist in any small or large way to lead ourselves through the risky years ahead. For example, get this article into the hands of any public or private sector leader you think appropriate.

On 2nd thought, I won't retract recommending a read of Dr. Sircus. But, I now recognize that he is perhaps fear-mongering, not intentionally maybe, but because he is engulfed in his own fear. An unclear mind and heart cannot write clearly, wouldn't you agree?

I am now convinced that Prolamine Iodine is the most effective. Find a doctor that uses Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing). Take a high dosage of the iodine until your thyroid reaches sufficiency. Then continue a light maintenance dosage until there is agreement about the level of risk being normalized. for strontium 90, use Calcium Lactate in the same manner. The body will not absorb iodine nor calcium from environmental sources if the body is not deficient. Being sufficient is the best protection.
