2008bangkok Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Hi, Looking to get a passport for my 2 young children to take to UK but I want to wait until im in the UK to register British Citizenship, I have looked at the Consular website http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-thailand/how-register-birth/ and from what I can gather all I need to provide the Embassy with is an notarised translation of the kids thai birth certificate along with my full UK birth certificate and passport and that is enough to get them a British passport. Is that right and if so has anybody had any experience of this and can tell me how i get the birth certificate notorised, do I have to go to the Thai Immigration or someplace else like foreign office and can i go to one of the translation places on wireless road and get them to do it? thanks BKK
PattayaParent Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I was told by the British Embassy in Dubai that you can't register the births in UK if they were born overseas, you have to register through the Embassy, although it's not compulsory to do so and they will issue you with a passport without registering.

Save yourself some grief and have the documents translated at the Department of Foreign Affairs their website http://www.mfa.go.th
PattayaParent Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 ^yes I think that's where I had to get some translations done, if it's the place near Laksi Plaza.
Mario2008 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consular section at Cheang Wattana road (just before BKK-immigration/government center. You have it translated before you go there, but there are some translation agencies aross the street. Won't take long, as they have it on file and only need to type in the names and dates. There are also some near the embassy. Most translation agencies will take care of the legitimazation by the Foreign office for you (for a fee of course).
