Relative Quality Of Tvs

Featured Replies

As far as the quality of build, innovative design and resulting superior reception and picture quality, does in practice say a sony or Panasonic Tau deliver and how?

I notice a Panasonic Tau recently for under 10,000 baht in Lotus have they stripped it out and used the name to gain volume? or will it still be a superior product to the LG at around the same price?

Commnets would be appreciated.

Oh silly me...."TeleVisions"

There are a lot of things to consider when buying a TV... but brand shouldn't be a major factor. Even the best brands produce lemons, and the worst brands can produce a winner.

Inputs: Does it have component? DVI? S-video? HDMI? Front panel? Does it accept HDTV-quality input?

Picture: 100Hz? Resolution? Enhancements (Pixel Plus, Vega Engine, etc)? Processing? Progressive?

Type: CRT (great colors, great picture, low res, big, heavy)? LCD (faded colors, expensive, thin, high res, small)? Plasma (good colors, thin, big, low res)? Rear projection (narrow view, faded colors, big, heavy)?

If you're looking at 10k baht TVs, there isn't much to say. Most are about the same, as in they'll work, but they lack all the fancy stuff.

5 years ago - a sony was superior...

Today..well just compare specs....

you get what u pay for the majority of the time :o

What is in a name?

I noticed that my Philips TV has a Toshiba tube in it, when it was in for service.

Choose one that gives you a good picture, and has a well know name,

like Sony. It is then much easier to get serviced, further down the road!

We were in the market for a television a few months back. We spent hours going from shop to shop comparing pictures, prices and features.

We had originally intended to buy one of the flat panel sets; LCD or Plasma. But, we saw this wide screen Sony tube-type TV with the Wega (??) engine and DRC (Digital Reality Creation). The quality of the picture just blew us away; especially on DVD's. The quality is so good that you can't even see the individual pixels unless you get really close to the screen. With a decent DVD the image is almost photograph quality.

Bottom line, we bought one and are very happy with it.

That said, the LG TV's we looked at also had excellent quality displays.

agree with that, you dont get better quality pictures than the sonys, which is why I have one also :o

One of the best kept secrets is the cheap, old fashioned tube (CRT) has the best picture quality. Better than flat panels. Better than LCD. Better than plasma. Better than projection. CRT also offers excellent viewing when not directly in front of it and does not suffer from ghosting/latency. There are a few downsides like the bulk and you just can't buy a 50" wide screen CRT. As for brands, look at reviews to find out which one is more ideal.

I buy mainly Samsung products these days, they're cheap-ish, good quality, never had and problems, except a dodgy DVD player once, and service seems to be OK.

Nex tpurchase will be a Samsung Plasma TV, got to save my pennies first!!!

I just bought a 29" JVC CRT TV with 100hz.

JVC made its own deflection yoke inside that even Hitachi buys from them.

Its yoke has better linearity. 17900 baht.
