The Houthies Take Bab-El-Mandeb, Catastrophic Game Changer

Featured Replies

So with the total collapse of Saudi forces, the ragtag band of AK-47 armed Houthies have swept the coast of Yemen and have taken control of Bab-El-Mandeb. And for those who don't know where that is, and more importantly what it entails, now is the time to educate yourself.

This is a total disaster for the world economy and global trade, and we should all send our warmest regards to the one who's responsible for this, donald j. trump.

"Analysts are calling the Iran-backed Houthi group’s victories the most significant regional development since the US and Israel declared war on Iran in February.

The offensives could be particularly damaging for Saudi Arabia and its oil exports. The Houthis, who declared a blockade of Saudi-flagged ships in the Red Sea earlier in the year, now have a much firmer control of the Bab al-Mandeb waterway, which Riyadh increasingly relies on for oil exports following blockades of the the Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Gulf, experts say."

A very interesting article from CNN. Saudi Arabia has at its disposal up to 900 military aircraft, and yet they kept begging Washington to step in. Not one Saudi airstrike was launched.

This seems like such a monumental <deleted> up I'm beginning to wonder if Pete (bang, ka-boom, ding) Hegseth is running the Saudi armed forces.😆

"“The failure this time is not with the Yemenis,” a regional source told CNN on Thursday. “It’s a disaster made in (Washington) DC and Riyadh.

The regional source told CNN that it was “a complete failure of political leadership” amid fierce squabbling and delayed decision-making in Riyadh.

“There was not one air strike throughout the day yesterday (by Saudi support forces), although there were minute-by-minute updates,” the regional source added. “It’s a Saudi-American f**k up of epic proportions.”"

USA Today doesn't mince words. This has the potential to cripple the already jittery and fragile world economy. This is what you get when electing Stupid.

"The Houthis’ capture of Perim means Iran and their allies have effectively consolidated control over two of the most important trade chokepoints in the world, and the strain on the global economy that followed shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz is now poised to grow worse.

World leaders and experts have warned that continued disruptions to trade could eventually cause a global recession where tens of millions of people go hungry."

It can still be reached via the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean, but adds weeks and lots of cost to the travel.

IMO the only way this can be stopped now is if Trump dies or is removed by the 25th Amendment, or a trial after impeachment.

No, you won't, because you can't. But you actually believing you can says a lot about you, and none of it is good.

The US lost the war in Iran because the war was ill conceived, poorly executed and terribly led. You got owned by a bunch of religious nutters with no navy or air force.

This has to go down as one of the greatest humiliations the US has ever experienced. So stop making an even bigger fool out of yourself with the tough guy attitude, because no one buys it.

You won't start nuking Iran. That's just the feverish dream of the most deluded psychos.

So to summarise, you haven't "got it", okay?thumbsup

Saudi Arabia already spent seven years in a costly quagmire with the Houthis with no decisive victory and there's little appetite for another forever war.
Does this sound familiar?
Trump broke it, Trump needs to fix it.

Saudi Arabia’s costly war in Yemen: a neoclassical realist theory of overbalancing

'Saudi Arabia has since been stuck in a costly quagmire, with no realistic prospect for success'.

900 aircraft but how many qualified pilots? The Saudi pilots are probably all "princes" who fly as a hobby and as a way to show off.

Couple of months ago the Saudis prevented the US from going all out against Iran. I wonder if Trump is now retaliating by refusing to budge against the Houthis.

It is possible that the loss of the islands and the ports was intentional. The end plan could very well be to force some actions;

  • Force the Yemen government to clean up its act. The current government is composed of factions who are constantly feuding with each other. The Yemen military has received enormous amounts of aid, much of it has been embezzled or otherwise squadered.

  • The Saudis expected the USA to intervene, rather than do the dirty work themselves. The USA declined, since it was KSA asets at risk and in KSA's interests to intervene.

  • The current state of oil supply still has oil and gas at affordable levels. Cutting off the KSA pipeline will put pressure on oil and gas supplies. Prices will soon become painful. Inflation will increase. All of this will put pressure on the rest of the world to intervene. Maybe, this is what the USA believes was needed to encourage other countries to intervene.

It is indicative of the hypocritical politics of those criticizing the USA for the non intervention. First they were upset when the USA engaged with Iran. They demanded that the USa stop ostilities. OK, the USA did just that. Now they are upset that the USA did not intervene directly in Yemen for the direct benefit of Saudi Arabia. Well, the Saudis have their state of the art airforce, and multi billion dollar army. They demanded the UAE leave Yemen. It is up to the Saudis to respond. They cannot expect their domestic servants to fight the Yemenis on their behalf. And if the EU and Asia are feeling the pain of the reduced oil and gas supplies, they may very well have to send their own military personnel to open the transport routes, which is what the USA has wanted all along.
