webfact Posted March 22, 2011 Share Posted March 22, 2011 Former Deputy PM Endorses Joint Democrat-Pheu Thai Government A former finance minister claims that national reconciliation will be achieved if the Democrat and Pheu Thai parties join hands in forming a government. Former Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula has predicted that the government will be formed in one of four ways in the next general election. First is a joint Democrat-Pheu Thai administration, which, according to Pridiyathorn, will speed up national reconciliation, while economic policies will remain largely unchanged, given that the Pheu Thai Party still lack an apparent leader. The second way is similar to the current government, in which a Democrat-Pheu Thai parties coalition be formed with smaller parties joining in government. The former deputy prime minister believes this will delay national reconciliation as the red-shirt movement will likely continue to protest and the economic management will be the same. As for the third way, Pridiyathorn is suggesting that it's possible that the Pheu Thai Party may join hands with the Chart Thai Pattana Party, which will help promote a reconciliation and improve the economy if it is led by a suitable leader. The Democrat may also decide to form a government with the Chart Thai Pattana Party and some smaller parties, which may improve chances of a reconciliation if the leader is chosen from one of the smaller parties. The former deputy prime minister claims that the economy may fare a little better under these conditions. Pridiyathorn is also asserting that Thailand needs to change as the country's economy is no longer experiencing strong growth that it had seen in the past 50 years. If nothing is done, the Thai economy may eventually shrink. He advises that Thailand turn itself into a trading nation, much like Singapore. He said the country must link its transportation systems with its neighbors. Currently, Thailand only has a rail system linked with Malaysia. The former deputy prime minister has also recommended a deep sea port to be constructed on the western coast of Thailand to allow exports to Africa, Europe and southern China. The improved logistical system will also bring other economic benefits. " Doubtful - but could, provided no association to the cancerous Jutaporn and server all ties and communication with former PM and convicted criminal on the run - Thaksin.
