Ford Fiesta Airbags

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone has any information as to whether or not there are any plans go give the Thai version of the new Ford Fiesta 7 airbags as the USA and European versions have? The joke is that the Euro version is being made IN THAILAND at the same factory in Rayong as the watered down version being sold on the Thai market that only has 2 airbags! If there is any hope of getting the full featured version here in the near future I will hold off on buying one for now. I realize personal safety is not a high priority in Thai culture and they are trying to keep the cost down but it is conceivable they could offer it as an option in the future. All comments welcome.

Yep ^ probably not in the life time of the Fiesta version of model..Life here has to evolve for a few more decades first..

Well LOS car market is moving forward, finally Honda Jazz is available with 2 airbags in all models, not just the 700k top model.

and since late 2008 even Vigo has 2 airbags, but top models only

Yeah but there's an entire education process behind it and wholesale change needed in the way people think that is going to have to take place first and that's what's really going to be a slow process. Look how long the rest of the world market has had seat belts and helmets for example and even those haven't caught on yet here.. Air bags may as well be a trip to Mars in comparison..

Not only are the Thais not so concerned about safety but when you have an accident it costs a lot of money to replace all those explosive devices called air bags.

There is a good show on National Geographic playing right now about the history of automotive safety going back 100 years including the evolution of the airbags systems. It's really interesting and dispels some of the old myths about what does or doesn't make a car safer.
