guys. a friend of mine . was thinking of a simple marrage to a thai lady at the local district office . the same as a marrage in a registry office in the uk . how difficult is is it . james hat yai sydney ;)

Not difficult.

He needs to get an Affirmation To Marry document from his Embassy.

Get it officially translated to Thai and verified at the MFA Office in Bangkok.

He can then register the marriage at an amphur.

The actual registration does not cost a lot.

I think I got that correct, it has been a few years :)

about 20 baht is the usual fee, for the certificate.

Don't forget to ask for a copy of the entry into the marriage register (khor rhor 2), next to the official wedding certificate. It is needed for an extension of stay based on marriage.

Is the Embassy certificate still required if the foreigner has never been married before ?

I know I needed it because I was divorced.

Yes everything said above is correct. But I think some Immigration offices require photos of the actual weeding ceremony particularly for first time renewal of permit to stay.

Marriage is a civil registration. Many of use don't take photos at the District Office or have party. So if requested they will accept something else.
