Apple Ipad 2

A Thai University student asked me if i know of an American who could

help to buy an Apple iPad 2 and have it sent to Thailand.

But even if i asked someone i know in California to do this, i wonder

if these devices are still available for purchase because i have been

reading stories that stores are sold out in USA ?

There are also many stories of design faults etc and i wonder if it

would be better to wait for the iPad 3 which will be 33% thinner than the

2 ?

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad/select?mco=MjE0OTI0MDI

ships in 3 - 4 weeks.

looks like no inventory.

California state sales tax: 9.25%, shipping: ???, Thailand VAT+duty: ???

Maybe better to hand-carry back, hard to avoid any state sales tax if ordering from Apple, I think they collect all state sales taxes, for those states which have it. Amazon does not add sales tax, for most states.

You can buy it at MBK already.

Have a look in the Apple IPad 2 discussion @ the Apple Forum here.

BTW. Your story aboud IPad 3 are just rumors you've heard of. ;)

Thanks :)

I am not an Apple follower so i forgot about the Apple forum here

But if a private individual in California buys it over the counter and sends it to Thailand

as a " birthday gift " wouldn't that avoid Thailand VAT+duty ?

The other thing is that they talk about " 1st Generation " being sold here in Thailand.

I would find it very hard to believe that what is being sold in Thailand as an iPad2

right now is comparable regarding features compared to what a shopper in California

would buy for the same money ? B) There would have to be a catch ?

I know from being an Australian that we were saddled with all the obsolete crap ( not just computers )

when it came to anything selling technical from USA

Its on sale in Singapore already the MBK versions are probably grey market and I wouldn't waste my money on one I spoke to the people at the iStudio store in Siam Paragon who told me they have no plans to import them yet as there are licensing and other red tape issues to cut through 1st. I'd reserve one over the internet/phone with a store in Singapore or Malaysia and pick it up on your next visa run.

I've paid duty in Thailand on gifts sent from home and marked as gifts so now I just wait till I go to the US and carry it back.
