Dutch pedophile party founder arrested for child porn possession

AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) -- The founder of a Dutch political party that advocates for the acceptance of pedophilia was arrested on early Tuesday morning for possession of child pornography, the party said.

Ad van den Berg, 67, is best known for founding the controversial Party for Neighbourly Love, Freedom, and Diversity (PVND) in May 2006, which called for the legalization of child pornography and to abolish the age of consent. The party was dissolved last year, but Van den Berg remains active as chairman of Martijn, an association which similar goals.

A statement on Martijn's website confirmed that Van den Berg was arrested in Haarlem on Tuesday morning, while Dutch police in a statement said a 67-year-old man had been arrested for possessing child pornography. Police did not confirm his identity.

"We are resending the press release sent on December 18. This in relation to the fact that Mr. Van den Berg was arrested by the moral police today," the statement said. It had a press release from December attached that Van den Berg wrote after police had searched his home in October.

According to police, several storage devices and a large quantity of movies and photos were seized during the search in October. These were examined by investigators, who determined that Van den Berg possessed a 'large quantity' of child pornography.

"A number of other computers and storage devices were seized during the arrest this morning," a police statement said. "This material is currently being examined by detectives. The man has been detained and will be arraigned on Friday April 1st."
