SWABI (BNO NEWS) -- A suicide bomber riding a motorbike killed at least 10 people on a motorway in northern Pakistan on Wednesday morning, state media reported. A police officer was among the casualties.

The state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that the bomber was riding a motorbike when he blew himself up near a police checkpoint on the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway in Swabi District, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

District Police Officer Abdullah Jan told reporters that 10 people were killed while 15 others were injured, some seriously. He said the attack happened close to Swabi town, where a crowd gathered to attend a police meeting. A police officer was among those killed.

APP reported that police have recovered body parts of the suicide bomber and head and legs would be sent for DNA test, Jan added. The identity of the victims could not be immediately ascertained, and fears are the death toll could rise as some of the injured were in a critical condition
