orang37
Sawasdee Khrup, Khun TheFishman1, Many thanks for this encyclopedic rendering of the benefits of cucumber ! Humbly suggest this is the kind of useful thread (on food, household hints, and local shopping tips) that could be useful as part of a "pinned topic" here on this forum. best, ~o:37; Edited April 1, 2011 by orang37

Thakkar
Great info, Fishman, Thanks. Here's a quick recipe: Add some grated cucumber to plain yoghurt. Mix in some well-diced or squashed banana. Makes a nice healthy dip to eat with warm pita bread, tortilla or paratha.
Semper
A cucumber is 95% water. As such, aside from some fiber, it has relatively little nutritional value (though it will help keep you from getting dehydrated!) <BR style="DISPLAY: block; CLEAR: left" itxtNodeId="268"> Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_water_does_a_cucumber_contain#ixzz1IO8SPNjR

Try typing in the search box "cucumber vitamins" and you will find that Fishman is correct. So it actually does have nutritional value and is one of the vegetables recommended as part of the 5 a day veg and fruit rule. jko
Most 'amazing' things arriving by email are either hoaxes, false or exaggerated, and people should check them before sending them on - alas, most folks don't. bother. I suspect this one is a mixture of fact and fabrication. Snopes is checking so we'll see what they conclude. Tks Aitch I can always find some at Rimping whenever I want any. Also, there's a Greek/middle east type restaurant in town called Jarusalem Falafel (or something like that). They probably will sell Pita bread for takeaway. There are other mid-east reaturants you could try like Sahara (Neimahemin. on the main rd near soi 17 or thereabouts) and The Garden Restaurant (Lebanese)

lannarebirth
Except for pickles, I never regarded the cucumber very highly before coming to Thailand. I have to say though, both cukes and tomatoes are much more flavorful here and eat them often.
