Indonesian security guard possessed by 'monkey spirit' causes massive traffic congestion

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- A security guard impersonating a monkey on Thursday caused massive traffic congestion outside Indonesia's Communications Ministry in Central Jakarta.

The Jakarta Globe reported that hundreds of onlookers resorted to praying and chanting to force the security guard, identified as Fika who worked at the ministry, to stop behaving like a monkey and climb down from a tree. The man was swinging from one branch to another, beating his chest and screeching and howling in the manner of a monkey.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, but Fika refused to cooperate with them. Security guards at the ministry tried to help and offered him bananas.
This, however, failed with Fika eating one of the bananas, including the skin, as he began to hammer his fists against the tree.

A shaman also arrived to "drive away the spirit of the monkey," the newspaper reported.

After a few hours, Fika finally began to climb down, but when he touched the ground he began walking on his knuckles toward the security post before rolling around on the ground.

He was taken away. No further information was provided.
