I recently bought a new suitcase, Marco Polo brand (not Bottega Veneta, but a local brand, I think.) Now It has a combination lock and a thing that slides out to open the suitcase. There's also a key hole, but the shop told me that you didn't get a key for that - that's only for airport security.

I can't for the life of me work out how to change the combination number. Pulling the slide-y thing out and changing the numbers doesn't work. There's no switch on the inside of the case.

Help!!!

I'm assuming it's a knockoff you bought here in Thailand? If so, you're probably best to head back to the store and have them do it. I bought one of those small locks for suitcases in MBK. Couldn't figure out how to change it. Took it back to the shop and they couldn't either! So I got a new one...

Usually at the back of the combination plate on the inside of the suitcase there's a little lever in an L-shaped groove.

You set the combination to what you want and then move this lever and that locks your set combination.

If changing combination is not working it is maybe already in the set position?

Play about with it with the suitcase open.

I don't think it's a knock-off. I think it's just that it has the same brand name as an Italian brand. You see Marco Polo in most department stores here. I bought it in Robinson.

The back of the lock is completely smooth, apart from a couple of rivets. No lever.

I'm completely stumped, unless the problem is that a key should have been provided with the suitcase to fit the TSA lock.

I don't know how your branch works, but it is common for suit case locks to keep the button to open the lock pressed down (whilst the lock is open) and then change the number. Release the button and close your suit case. The new number should open it.
