I am looking for some potting epoxy (black preferred) for a small electronic device. I need enough to fill about 500-1000 of these small units, so need a few kgs. I found this website and the packs they show would be ideal, but unfortunately when I called them they said they no longer carried it. I also contacted Birla but they only sell it by the barrel, so that won't work out for me either.

My link

If anyone knows of a distributor in the Bangkok area for this I would appreciate your letting me know.

I don't actually know any off hand, but I imagine there would be a number of retailers/distributors in Thailand. At risk of sounding condescending, I thought I'd throw you a quick hint for getting better results from Google.

Use the advanced search options, or even just the standard search but include the "site:" parameter/filter to help get more relevant results.

For example:

Search for "epoxy resin site:.th" to restrict results to domains ending in .th ie .co.th, .gov.th etc

http://www.google.com/search?q=epoxy+resin+site:.th

Search for "epoxy site:thaivisa.com" if you want results limited to thaivisa.com posts

http://www.google.co.th/search?q=epoxy+site:thaivisa.com&hl=en

Keep in mind that there are many Thai sites that have standard .com domains and they may be hosted in or out of Thailand, so it's also worth searching from http://google.co.th and then narrowing the search to pages "from Thailand" only.

http://www.google.co.th/#q=epoxy+resin&hl=en&cr=countryTH

Failing that try just using search terms that may get you the results you want eg potting + epoxy + bangkok etc

Finally, if Google returns nothing useful, try Bing.

You may well have looked online extensively and I appreciate that advice from fellow expats can be much better than google searches at times, but I find a lot of people literally have no idea at all how to search for information on-line - efficiently or otherwise. If my reply doesn't help you, maybe someone else....

What you need is 3M Scotchcast 2130 It is a flame retardant Compound. It is a 2 compound epoxy. Very good, I have used it for nearly 30 years. It comes in small packets of 216Gram mixing pouch.

I am also looking for epoxy resin. To be used as a decorative wood filler. Preferably clear. I have seen some Thai kits online, but any recommendations here welcome.

Thanks for the search tips, but if you read my post the issue isn't finding a company through a search. Anyone can do a web search, but that is only half the battle here, if that. The issue is finding a company that actually carries what I need, will respond to inquiries (in Thai or English, doesn't matter), and sells this in less than drum lots. After weeding out a number of non-Thai sites I contacted several with no result. As an aside, I have found that the chances of a successful result with the website of a Thai company is very low. Any e-mail sent to their web-site address, whether in English or Thai, has a very low chance of a response. I have followed up with calls, and more often than not find that they know nothing about the product they are supposed to be selling, or do not even sell it, which is what happened in this case. Not sure what purpose their sites serve.

In this particular case I even sent an e-mail to the local 3M branch indicating the part number for the product I am interested in--no response. I will follow up with a phone call in a moment.

I know it can be done, I have succeeded before despite the attempts of these companies to avoid selling anything, but what I was hoping for here was to hear from someone who has a known source that they have experience with or have dealt with before since I have already wasted a few hours on this. I will keep trying, but if anyone has any specific info on a retailer or distributor I would appreciate it, thanks.
