Clarification on Retirement Visa
If you enter on a Non-O 90-Day visa based on marriage, your first 1-year extension would need to be based on "married to a Thai" - so need 400K Baht in the bank for 2 months prior to application, plus the other required documents, pictures, etc. In subsequent years, if you wish to change to a retirement-based extension, you will need to show 12 months of bank-statements of minimum 65K Baht/mo (every month - no missed/late transfers) - OR - 800K Baht in the bank for 2 months prior to application, leave it there 3 months after, and no less than 400K Baht in the bank the rest of the year. -

Crime Filipino Man Arrested for Skipping Luxury Hotel Bills
Picture courtesy of Siam Rath A Filipino man has been arrested in Bangkok following a series of deceptive stays at luxury hotels, where he incurred damages amounting to hundreds of thousands of baht by skipping out on his bills. Major General Prasart Khemmaprasit of the Immigration Division 1, along with senior immigration officers, responded to complaints from several five-star hotels in Bangkok about a Filipino man's fraudulent activities. The man, known for his cunning ploys, repeatedly managed to stay without paying for accommodation or meals by tricking hotel staff. The incidents date back to December 2024, when a manager of a renowned five-star hotel by the Chao Phraya River filed a complaint about the man, who booked hotel rooms via a popular online platform. He would provide credit card details, which were only charged upon physical card presentation at the hotel. Claiming that his father, who was arriving later, would settle the bill, he manipulated the hotel's service standards to gain free accommodation. His scheme involved reserving luxurious stays and limo services from the airport, stating he was travelling with his father. However, the investigation revealed he was not entering Thailand from abroad but was instead residing locally. He would feign arrival via public transport to collect the limousine, effectively deceiving hotel staff. While staying, he'd indulge heavily in room service, even inviting friends for gatherings, accumulating significant costs on the hotel's account. On the supposed day of his father's arrival, neither the father nor the man was found, leading hotels to file police reports. Following reports of similar incidents at other hotels, officers identified the suspect as not a tourist but a university student in Rangsit. Using this information, police obtained a warrant for his arrest. The Immigration Division arrested 26-year-old "Leonardo Hernandez" (a pseudonym), based on witness accounts and surveillance, as he returned to his residence near the university. Convicted of fraud, he now faces legal proceedings for deceitfully obtaining stays and services under false pretenses. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Siam Rath 2025-05-02 -

Almost Refused Entry at Chiang Mai Airport -Be Warned! - 2nd Visa Exemption
Where the "rule" is - pay through their agent-partners, and make all the visa-exempt entries you want - no problem. They make a joke of their system with inconsistency / "crackdowns" and paperwork / "requirements" change-ups - all designed only to line their pockets. All is done right out in the open, with agents advertising their services. And yet, some farangs defend what they are doing as "enforcing the rules"? Life is easier here after accepting that things here are not the same here as in our passport-countries. Corruption rules the roost, and everything done is to preserve that corruption. I'm doing it "legit" on retirement for as long as I can - but always fully prepared I may have to pay an agent the next year, if they "change" something to force this. -

Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash
your making a false comparison.....Yes, the Louvre is planning a higher fee for non-EU visitors in 2026, but the difference is small—only about €3–€8 more than EU citizens. It's nothing like Thailand's dual pricing, where foreigners often pay 400–1000% more. Also, many EU museums are free or low-cost for everyone, regardless of nationality. I can't find any examples in Italy - i used to be a regular visitor to both France and Italy and their museums and cultrural sites -

Immigration Anutin Proposes New Immigration Department to Streamline Border Services
Sounds like a good idea if I am reading it correctly. It seems like they are creating am Immigration Department within the Ministry of the Interior? If so it could be more efficient. Its tough for me to comment in an educated fashion since, unlike you expert commentators above, I dont speak Thai and am not familiar with the intricacies of the Thai Ministry of the Interior so I wouldnt even be able to read a flow chart of the various responsibilities like you guys. How are the Immigration matters assigned or controlled now? How will the reorganization plan affect day to day operations? You experts on the Thai government should know.
