Travel To Ko Phangan

Featured Replies

Am due to arrive in KPN on Wednesday for a week's holiday with my girlfriend (who's pregnant). However, my friends in other parts of Thailand are advising against travel to South at the moment for obvious reasons and I'm now seriously reconsidering my options. We're due to fly to Surat Thani and get the ferry across but some news sources are even saying that high seas are still affecting ferries and I don't want to be stranded either on the mainland, or on KPN for that matter. I understand that many of you have businesses on the islands so don't really want to put off any visitors from visiting, but if anyone can help me out with some honest advice it would be much appreciated. I also understand that the meteorologists can never be 100% accurate, but am I also right in thinking that it's pretty cloudy there at the moment and more rain is expected next week? If so then surely more disruption is expected??

where are you flying from? , weather is getting better, but for the next couple of weeks ( just while the islands get back to normal ) it might be wise to vacate elsewhere esp if your missus is pregnant

Flying from UK on Tuesday and then Bkk to Surat on Wednesday. Or maybe not now...

if i was you, fly to BKK. Check tomorrow with the resort and ferry company that all is ok , as rumours have it there is another storm coming, but blue skys so i doubt it.

As there is a message out by the UK Embassey that no travel to KPG is advised, you travel insurance ect should cover cost of hotel and flights down to there....

Maybe you could head to pattaya or maybe phuket ( although the weather isnt that good there either )

my choice would be pattaya !!!

I flew with Nok Air to Surratani airport yesterday. The Army had to helicopter/truck passengers over to Surratani town as the flood levels are still high but just passable if you had a big truck. From the town to Donsak was fine.

Please check the Embassy website as they have updated the information re Koh Phangan

Thanks a lot for that. We're now thinking of a backup plan to head to Ko Chang if the situation's still bad by the time we reach Bkk.

how pregnant? hospitals on the island aren't the greatest

and since you are British if there really is a travel advisory it might negate your travel insurance, best check on that

She's 20 weeks' pregnant. FCO has now withdrawn its warning against all but essential travel to KPN and Koh Tao - effectively giving it the all clear to go. On top of that we've contacted the resorts we're heading to and they've said that everything is back to normal. I think our main concern is having a nice stress-free holiday without having to worry about transport connections (ferries, buses to Donsak) and being stranded someplace. I understand it's impossible to guarantee anything when you're on holiday so I just think it's best to get all the up-to-minute info we can so we can make the right decision come Wednesday.
