Hi everyone,

I'm off to Koh Samui in a few weeks for the first time with my Australian girlfriend.

I was wondering if any of you know of a good place to stay here in the low season. I would really like to stay a quiet place with not too many bars around.

Any advise?

My budget is around 2000bht but i was thinking of taking her to a more exclusive place for a few days.

Thank you all. :D

follow this tread, maybe you will get some idea

Ko Samui, which beach is best?

Koh Samui has a range of beaches including the busiest beach on Samui which is Chaweng Beach. Lamai Beach on Koh Samui is quieter and Bophut and Big Buddha Beaches are fairly quiet. There are also many small quiet beaches on Koh Samui.

enjoy

Koh Samui's beaches are always incontestable for its magnificence. Those who adore the blue crystal clear water and the dazzling sandy beach will absolutely fall for this island.

The best beaches of Samui line the northern and eastern coasts, and these are the main beaches with their characteristic charm:

Northern Coast of Koh Samui

Maenam Beach is the first tourist area of Samui, located from the ferry pier, midway between Nathon, the commercial center and Chaweng Beach. You will be in peace and relaxation with its crystal clear and warm waters as well as long clean beach. Over here, there is an interesting village settlement with a dominant Chinese influence and you can see a lot of wooden shop houses with a Chinese flavor and a small Chinese.

From Maenam beach, you can take a boat to neighboring Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Koh Nang Yuan.

Bang Po Beach is a long 14 kilometers stretch of golden sand facing Koh Phangan, situated in the northwest of Samui. In this area, there is not much development; very limited accommodation and no tourist shopping or nightlife. Its gorgeous scenery and its calm waters are prized here, making it a great place for swimming and perfect relaxation.

Besides, its nice coral reefs are proudly recommended for diving.

Big Buddha Beach takes its name from the 12-meter-golden Buddha, the most well-known landmark of Samui, installed in Wat Pra Yai. The beach is quiet and peaceful. Swimming is good here as the water is shallow and calm. There is also a pier for express boat to Koh Phangan.

Bo Phut Beach is one of the oldest settlements in Samui; there is a small fishery village where people still maintain their old simple lifestyle. The beach is 3 kilometers long with the smooth white sand and its quiet and romantic atmosphere, so it is a good place for those who love privacy and tranquility. The water sports and diving are popular here as well.

Eastern Coast of Koh Samui

Chaweng Beach: Confidently, Chaweng Beach is the biggest and most popular tourists' spot of Samui. Similar to Patong Beach in Phuket, Chaweng Beach is the nightlife center of Koh Samui; there are many different restaurants, bars, discos, and so on for those who eyeing to enjoy a good time and colorful holiday. Many resorts are built along the beach line. For natural appreciation, the beach itself is prized for very smooth white sand and clear water, not too deep for swimming.

Lamai Beach: Although being smaller than the Chaweng Beach, Lamai has almost all things that can be found on Chaweng. However, the development is still in transition; therefore, you can always experience its charming beauty together with its tranquility. The beach is beautiful with its soft white sand, lined with palm trees along 5 kilometers in length. Aside from the breathtaking beaches and sea, there is an interesting spot to see. In the southern end of the beach, there are the phallic rocks with their odd formation, called Hin Ta and Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother Rock). These rocks are well-known for its resemblance to human's sexual organ. A local folklore tells of an old couple whose ship was wrecked in the bay, and their bodies were washed ashore to create the rocks.

Choeng Mon Beach: The remote and very peaceful beach, situated in the northeast of Samui Island. The beach still keeps its magnificently scenic nature and serenity. There are only small restaurants and shops lining the main road. If you wish a long stay among the quiet and peaceful atmosphere, Choeng Mom Beach is a wonderful choice.

Hua Tanon Beach: You can find some of the freshest and cheapest seafood over here since it is the place where the fishing Muslim village situates. The colorful life-style of the local people helps to brighten the area up. There is also a small, but active market where the villagers come to trade for seafood.

Southern Coast of Koh Samui

Thong Krut Beach: Sitting in the southwest of Koh Samui, it is a point for transferring to Koh Tan. This is the island's best fishing site and there lies a neat fishing village. Moreover, you can appreciate the marvelous sunset views from this beach.

Bang Kao Beach: This is another nice and quiet beach in the southern coast of Samui Island. Stretching over 2 kilometers in length with its isolated white sand and crystal clear water, it is a great place for swimming. The sunsets here are also excellent. For those who love curiosities, you can visit a temple called Wat Khun Aram where the mummified body of the famous monk is reserved.

Western Coast of Koh Samui

Taling Ngam Beach: This is best beach on the western side of KohSamui with extremely quiet and peaceful atmosphere since there is little development. The beach is completely fringed with palm trees and the sea is very clean. Those who adore solitude can relax in peace and enjoy the spectacular sunset view.

Phangka Bay: this is the most remote coastal spot of the island. Its tiny little enclave gives you a real sense of isolation since there is no development in the area
