JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesia and Turkey on Tuesday agreed to boost their political and security cooperation during a bilateral meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia between the countries' Presidents.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told Antara news agency that during his meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul - who is on an official visit since Monday - several topics were discussed, such as the countries' efforts to step up bilateral cooperation, including various global issues in their effort to enhance togetherness in G-20 and D-8.

Gathered at Jakarta's Merdeka Palace, the two Presidents also discussed the support of the candidacy of the two countries in the international organization forum as an active contribution in regional and global problem solving, as they look to boost mutual understanding by encouraging political consultation to study and discuss all aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation.

After the meeting, a memorandum of understanding on consular, diplomatic, and cooperation in disaster management was signed before the two presidents.

Through the Bali process framework, Indonesia and Turkey will also cooperate in the prevention, detection, and eradication of transnational crime of goods and human smuggling.

In addition, the presidents discussed fighting terrorism by increasing information exchange and agreed to cooperate in strengthening the ability to run disaster response process, management and mitigation.

Previously, President Yudhoyono visited Turkey in June 2010.
