Spanish police arrest Romanian man who killed pregnant wife, showed body to father via webcam

MADRID (BNO NEWS) -- Spanish police arrested a Romanian young man suspected of killing his wife in Madrid before showing her body to his father via webcam, police said Tuesday.

The Spanish news agency EFE reported that the 21-year-old strangled his 19-year-old wife, who was also Romanian, and then showed her body to his father in Romania through a webcam. His wife was five months pregnant.

Madrid police commander Emilio Alcázar said in a press conference that the victim told the offender that she wanted to end the relationship and said that he was not the father of the child.

The killer contacted his father by internet shortly after the incident and told him that he was going to kill the victim's sister too. The father of the alleged offender warned the Romanian Police, which then informed the Spanish police.

The 13-year-old girl returned to the couple's house minutes before police arrived at the scene and found the body. The suspect made no resistance when he was arrested.

The incident and the arrest occurred Monday in the Madrid suburb of Torrejón de Ardoz with the cooperation of the Romanian police.

The Romanian couple do not have a criminal record and were not known to have a history of domestic violence.

This death brings to 17 the number of women killed in domestic violence incidents in Spain to date in 2011.
