The Nevada hotel (adjacent to where you may be working) has a nice neighborhood tween it, the airforce base and Tesco Lotus. Lots of house rentals in there (4-7Kbaht). You would be as close to work, the nursery school at work and Tesco Lotus as you're gonna get. The closest Thai market would be a mile north of Tesco. Near Index. Across the street.

The fresh air is over for the rest of the year. This place is as hot as the sun; and, old and young are advised to not be out in the heat and sun. The weather may be mild enough for young and old to return outside in December.

If you live in South Florida (as I do) then you have a seventy percent knowledge of how hot and humid Issan is (Ubon is the eastern most part of the time zone in Thailand so the oppressive heat begins around 06:30).

There is a nursery shcool right there on university grounds that has an airconditioned main room.

While you posted this the temperature was a very fresh 23 degrees - result of strong rainstorms. Same applies during wet season from time to time. The cool(er) season generally starts in late October, not December. Ubon is far less humid than Bangkok and Central Thailand. The heat is not oppressive at 06:30.

Sorry - it's a question of opinion and nothing personal but - I do wonder what your motives are in posting more than once with negative slants on living in this area.

I have been living in Ubon for two years now. I get paid just about what you will be getting. I have no problem making it on my salary. But I also do not drink or do any of the other costly things.

I pay 3500 baht which includes internet, electricity, and water. I eat out at the night markets or at a Thai style restaurant every day. My motor cycle costs me around 300 baht a month in gas. I can easily save 3-4000 baht a month and not have to really watch my spending.

It is easy to live here on that income and enjoy life if you do not try to eat, drink, and live like you did in your home country.

While I do not have a baby, I do have a girlfriend so two people can do it if they want to.

Sorry again for the tone.

I'm trying to offer her a very common slant amongst new arrivals who are come here from both the modern world and a temperate climate. Not the slant from seasoned folks. She will only be here a year and just when she is close to fully adjusting to all the extreme differences tween The States and this poorer, hotter and less windy red shirt section of a third world country, she will be finished with the mission and returning home.

When the air is not oppressive (during the 8 months of the year it is), the reason is usually rain. Either condition will keep the poor kid stuck in a house (that she can't afford to cool) ........

Beer is about $1 a US pint when bought retail (in 630 millilitre = 1.33 US pint bottles) and less than $2 in a bar. You can afford the odd night with a beer in front of the TV either at home or at a bar!

Edit: respect from a mostly moderate 'user' to anyone who chooses not to take the drug/poison that is alcohol

This is rather a batty comparative, for south Florida really isn't within the torrid zone of tropical climes and Ubon is. If you must use examples, use a more worthy and similar locale.

With her coming from The States, South Florida would be the best (U.S.) comparison with what she can expect here weatherwise (with the worst of S. Fl only being a 7 out of 10 on the hot and humid scale).
