Iranian arrested at Thai airport with 'ice' valued at Bt20 million

BANGKOK, April 11 - Thai police on Monday arrested an Iranian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport for smuggling 6.8 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, also known as 'ice,' worth Bt20 million (US$660,000).

The arrest of Mehdi Nikzad, 27, was a joint operation between Thailand' s Narcotics Suppression Bureau, the Immigration Police and Special Branch Police.

Mr Mehdi, travelling from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, confessed that he was hired by a fellow countryman to smuggle the crystal meth to a Malaysian agent, who was to pay the carrier once the work was completed.

Thirteen bags of the drug, with a total weight of 6.8 kg, were hidden variously in a laptop computer, an aerosol spray can and electrical appliances in order to evade checks by authorities.

The arrest took place in the wake of close surveillance by the Thai police who have been monitoring Iranian, Nigerian and Pakistani drug smuggling syndicates after being informed they might use Thailand as a transit point before delivering the drugs to other Asian countries. (MCOT online news)

That seems logical seeing that Thailand is the hub of the entire World.

Haven't the RTP missed a trick or two here? Why not confiscate some of the packages and shoo the guy on to Malaysia after alerting their opposite number, making sure that the mule is still carrying enough for the death penalty. No costly trial and appeals, no prison cell, in fact no costs at all.

Under cover cops selling the confiscated Ice on the street with colleagues waiting to pounce to extract significant amounts from dope heads should cover everybody's school fees for a while. The plot is almost Thaksinesque.

Wake up coach critic! Cops all over the world like to get the collar for themselves. Why should the Thai police want to not get the credit? Did it ever occur to you that not all Thai cops are corrupt and that not every Thai woman will spread her legs for you?

That's what the Australian Federal Police do if they are aware of Australian citizens taking drugs out of the country destined for another. Take the Bali 5 who were arrested upon entering Indoneasia after being informed by Federal police. They have now been sentenced to death (Firing squad) Federal Police pat themselves on the back for an excellent investigation, no court costs or incarciration costs for Australia.

Iranian nabbed with 6.8kg of 'Ice'

By The Nation

An Iranian man was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for smuggling crystal meth ("Ice") worth Bt21 million, hidden in electric appliances, anti-narcotics chief Atithep Panjamanond said yesterday.

Following a tip-off about a passenger smuggling drugs in transit, Mehdi Nicsac, 27, from Abu Dhabi, was arrested on Saturday after officials found 13 bags if "Ice" weighing 6.8 kg hidden in two computer laptops, three massage machines, two notebook fans and a portable transformer in his things.

Nisac reportedly confessed that he had been hired to deliver the drugs to a customer in Kuala Lumpur, Atithep said. He was initially charged with possession of crystal meth with the intent to sell and bringing the narcotics into Thailand without permission, the officer said.

The Thai Police know exactly what shit is going down when it comes to drugs. They know every skunk and rat, big and small. Who do you think CONTROLS the industry?

They will only step in when there's enough cash to withdraw from the bank. Perhaps that Iranian guy was thinking of taking a permanent vacation overseas... Hence it was his time to 'get caught'.

Would be nice to see Thailand adopt the Malaysian mantra: 'Drug Trafficking is Punishable by Death'. Malaysia whilst not drug free has much less of a problem than Thailand.

Perhaps if the cops were paid a better salary there would be less corruption and less demand for the ubiquitous tea-money.:D

Interesting to see some of the informed (and ill-informed) comments., with always the fingers pointing at the BiB. Whilst I am largely a 'knocker' of them you can also understand the mentality behind some of this. The 'biz' is pretty much known who does what and who rivals whom. In the middle are the opportunists. Removing competition by dobbing in a source, is old hat Thaksin just simply said - execute - and dealers, users and competition were obliterated. The wealth changed hands as did the ownership of the territories.

It is not going to stop any time soon. There has to be some 'sacrifices' made so the protocol of law enforcement appears to be moving but in reality - it is still driven by greed and corruption and Thailand has no shortage of apprentices. Continue to remove Nigerians, Iranians, Arabs and it keeps the local market under control. Simple economics of supply and demand!

these catches are just for distraction while the real ones pass undetected, they do it everyday in the States where immigrations and customs and the FBI pat their backs for catching a mule who brought half a kilo, ha! while the heavy stuff is being move into the country undetected right under their noses!

Thailand has the death penalty for drug smuggling and executed 2 people by lethal injection in 2009 for such a crime.

Given the large amount of narcotic trafficking in Thailand two seems a small number? I guess like many laws in Thailand these are enforced randomly.

All addictive drugs (legal and illegal) are bad but Meth is a particularity evil drug that totally debilitates and wipes out the person taking it...nothing is left of the original human, physically or mentally. The people behind the modern trade (the book "Angels of Death" by Sher and Marsden. A good read) are the lowest of the low.

This guy is a mule but non the less a link in the chain for destruction of more human and so pays the price.

You lie down with dogs...you get up with fleas.

So you speak for all the cops in the World then? For sure the RTP like a little credit (read publicity) now and again, lets the populace know that they are on the job, but then TIT. Money No.1. Don't want to be too busy or it'll interfere with the business.

I am sure that some Thai cops are straight, some have even told me so. I've also heard a lot of guys telling me that they were Green Berries or performing Seals - whatever they are. Should I, or all of us, believe them too? What Thai ladies offering themselves to me has to do with the OP is beyond my comprehension. Please be assured that no member of my Thai family or our wide circle of female friends has offered her sexual favours to me - and I haven't asked. You're not obsessed with sex are you? You can get help you know.

I am against death sentences, whatever the crime is. However i would choose death sentence ovedr 20 years in an asian jail. "Thou shall not kill" bloody murders, give them a chance to choose between life in prison or death.
