Since I enjoy the shooting sports and smoking, I am wondering if there are those in the CR area who are knowledgeable and would respond helpfully and constructively to the two questions below. What I am wondering is, do any of you know of where one can buy the following items;

A) Gummed cigarette rolling papers (don't want banana leaf), filtered and/or unfiltered cigarette tubes, the filters only, and flavorings, etc as needed to roll your own (RYO) cigarettes. I know from checking other forums that there is a good tobacco available all over Thailand which is mild, medium cut so that it can be used in Cigarette Rolling/Stuffling Machines, and relatively cheap as well: Black Cat (Meow Dam). I did not see a single negative remark about it from the forum farangs, in fact most praised it highly.

B)Rifle and/or pistol gunpowder and primer caps for reloading cartridges. I know that black powder is available (it is homemade by many here), but that is generally unnacceptable (can be dangerous and damaging) for use in modern arms, therefore it is NOT what I want. I have been here a long time, and I believe I am up to speed on firearms related issues in Thailand so I know that all is possible with some risk if not handled right. But ammo is very expensive, fairly hard to find what you might need, and reloading with a good handloader while watching TV makes sense if one would like to plink a lot.

Thanks for replies.

I’m pretty sure the vast majority of shooters in this country will be police, military or wealthy Thai hobbyists. Since few of them are reading these pages, you might do better contacting them directly, or through a Thai intermediary.

To Woralak: Thanks for the response. I am kicking myself because I now remember a store fixture with a lot of tobacco products in it at the shop you mention - the place where I go to get Southern Comfort Whiskey. They used to have it across the street too, but that place has apparently closed or moved. I will go back and check them out on the tobacco products.

To Villagefarang: Thanks for your response. I think other than the black powder shotguns which so many average Thais have, you are exactly right. I have one such police contact, a retired policeman from Chiang Mai who now lives here and who used to work all around in this area as well, who I can ask about this. Actually he is my brother-in-law who lives near me, but who has been off in Chiang Mai for some weeks. I think he shoots a lot - he carries his 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol around in his bag with him every day.

Best Regards to both............

Petrucio,

I think you are in for a let down regarding the reloading/shooting as unless you are a Thai national, it is not possible for you to legally own a firearm here. Your copper mate will tell you the same. Of course, if you don't mind paying exhorbitant rates per shot, you could always go to a shooting range. Example here in CM - 10 shots of a 12 guage will cost you 1500 baht whereas (if you were able to purchase them) a box of 25 Thai made cartridges (Bullet Master) will cost less than 700 baht.

Cheers,

Pikey.

Even air-pistols (shooting lead pellets) is illegal to foreigners. Getting a license is almost next to impossible. But you can shoot at a pistol range. Expensive. And you will have to borrow/rent a gun and buy really costly ammo.

The wife/GF could own the weapon and keep it on the husband's side of the bed.

Yes, that's exactly our situation but I think you have to be married and there are other criteria that the lady must meet before they'll issue a licence. If you are interested, do a site search as it's been covered here before. The OP's probably better off sitting back with a catapult and his rollies and plinking away at tin cans in the garden! ;)

On 2nd thought ... The danger of involving the wife in these things is involving the wife in these things. I brought the misses shooting once and instantly regretted it. On the 2nd magazine she was shooting tight groups and they were in the crotch area of the target. She was cool as a cucumber about it. Kind of unerving. :crying:
