No late closing times for Phuket bars during Songkran

Bars within the Patong's entertainment zone can close at 2am

PHUKET: -- All bars in Phuket must close at their regular closing times tonight and throughout the Songkran holidays, Governor Tri Augkaradacha has announced.

“We have no policy to allow bars and entertainment venues to extend trading hours during this Songkran,” Governor Tri told the Gazette.

“It is not like holidays during the high season, when we allow them to stay open until 4 or 5 am. They must close on time in accordance with the law,” he said.

Patong Police Superintendent Arayapan Pukbuakhao confirmed this will be the case in Patong.

“Bars and entertainment venues in Patong’s entertainment zone have to close at 2am. Venues outside the entertainment zone have to close at 1am,” he said.

Col Arayapan also cautioned against overzealous water play.

“People should not throw water violently at other people. We will also warn and stop people from throwing water at passing motorists, which is dangerous,” he said.

Fireworks and firecrackers also will be banned in Patong during the holiday, he added.

Muang District Chief Supachai Pochanukul confirmed that bars along Taina Road in Karon, the only entertainment zone on the island outside Patong, will have to close by 1am.

“The rest must close at midnight,” he said.

My first one in 7 years of coming to Los . Started here yesterday ran the Nanai gauntlet trying to get my gf to work. Glad I took her advice and put my phone in a placky bag. Saw 1 farang bike down middle of nannai. Later outside my hotel on soi banzhaan, now soi bananas , a young swede pissed off his brain side swiped a new Toyota being driven by a thai woman and her farang husband. In a complete act of generosity the woman wanted no compo just wanted to get him to hospital.

After 30 mins of coaxing and with the police just wanting them to sort it out we finally got him into her car and she took him to hospital. It's the second accident I have seen here where the farang was the perp and the thai victim asked for minimal or no comp and was concerned for the other person . The first incident involved myself some years ago.

I didn't mind getting wet after all but when you wear glasses and your riding a bike and people throw water in your face it can be really dangerous.

Today basic quick dry nylon clothing, no phone or bike and stay clear of the roads. One day of this is sufficient in my opinion. Will do the Bangla run later with some some girls who have a special songkran plan .

Yes, I stay well away from the water throwing areas. Unfortunately it will last about 3 days, still that's better than other places where it lasts all week.... :bah:
