Just noticed an announcement blurb on the AirAsia website stating that flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai will start on 20 October. Intro fares are from RM 49.99/599 baht. Here is a link to the promotional announcement.

Flight two days a week friday and saturday.

Looks to me as though it will be daily flights, not merely Friday and Saturday.

Yes apologies. The flights aren't on the schedule yet but if you try and book they show you the flight details. It does look like a flight daily.

Looks like the fare is generally higher on the weekends though.

AirAsia to Chiang Mai from Oct 20

KUALA LUMPUR: -- AirAsia is expanding its international routes to include Chiang Mai and Phnom Penh on Oct 20 and Nov 1 respectively.

To commemorate the expansion, about 10,000 seats to each of the destinations will be offered at an introductory fare of RM49.99 for one-way flights.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.airasia.com from Sept 28 to Oct 12 for travels up to March 25, 2006.

AirAsia Berhad group chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandes said the airline was the only one offering direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai.

"Chiang Mai is the fourth major city for us after Bangkok, Phuket and Hatyai," Fernandes said.

He added that the inclusion of Phnom Penh strengthened the group’s expansion in the region, which also included Singapore, Macau, China and the Philippines.

Thai AirAsia is scheduled to venture into Vietnam on Oct 17 via flights to Hanoi from Bangkok.

There will be two daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Mai at 8.45am and 10.35am, as well as two daily flights from Chiang Mai to Kuala Lumpur at 11.05am and 2.50pm.

Flights to Phnom Penh from Kuala Lumpur are scheduled at 3.15pm and 4.05pm, while return flights are at 4.35pm and 7.20pm daily.

Fantastic..... was planning on a visa run to Phnom Penh, but with this fare, I can also take the wife and kids! :D

Again, thank you for the heads-up...... Now, what to do in KL? :D:o

bring your kids to sunway lagoon (though a bit outside KL) ...... they will love it (and therefore, love you) ..... but dont fall for a shopping delirium urself....hahaha www.sunway.com.my/lagoon

KL is a wonderful though kinda hot and humid place..... very GREEN, clean (at last compared to other Asian cities), very safe (especially compared to Bangkok) a lot of parks (try KLCC park next to KLCC mall) ..... and BUKIT BINTANG area is a shopping paradise.....
