Suicide blasts kill 3 Afghan police

2011-04-14 19:41:03 GMT+7 (ICT)

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least three police officers were killed after four suicide bombers attacked an Afghan police station on Thursday in the southeastern region of the country, officials said.

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said the attack occurred Thursday morning at a local training center in the Aryub Zazai district, which is located in Paktia province, when one of the suicide bombers detonated his explosives in front of the district headquarters.

Police were able to shoot and kill one of the attackers, but provincial police chief, General Abdul Ghafar Sapi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the other two were able to flee the scene as local authorities were currently searching for the two suspects and would-be suicide bombers.

Hospital officials confirmed the number of deaths, adding that two others were injured due to the attack, although details regarding their health condition was not released.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility of the attack after its spokesman confirmed that the group had killed local policemen.
