Silver Bullion In Thailand

Featured Replies

HI,

I am looking to buy silver bullion in Bangkok, 1kg bars - any suggestions?

Thanks

Dont face the risks of Thai bars and the large margins and possible difficulty selling it. Plus avoid the issue of home break in and theft.

Use a service which stores it in a secure audited vault in the UK.

My suggestion would be to use the Thaivisa site search facility to

locate the dozens of prior threads on the same topic and then re-post with

any specific queries not already answered therein :)

You don't own it if you don't hold it ;)

Some folks have been reporting problems getting what they pay storage fees to supposedly hold for them large quantities.

One more just yesterday

I have searched the old posts, as the more aware on the forum will know silver has risen dramatically since the old postings so I was hoping more businesses would have opened up in BKK and there would be new information.......

I am only after physical bullion, who says silver in that 'allocated safe' really exists, i like to hold what i own especially when we see silver at $100+ an oz next year.

I am even interested in buying scrap silver, rings, bracelets etc as I have a jewellry furnace and can refine myself.

Thanks

If you aren't looking for a specific kind of silver then simply walk down Charoen Krung from the Silom Road intersection down towards the central post office. There are several wholesale jewelry stores who deal in silver shot. Comes in 1kg clear plastic bags. That is about the most fungible type of silver there is in Thailand. You can then use your own skills to cast it into any form you want.

You can generally get a rate not too far above the international spot price if you purchase at least 20kg.

Selling silver in Thailand is hard no matter how you do it, so I don't think this form would be any worse than another. Do be aware that you will be charged 7% VAT on all silver purchases, and that you will not recover this value when you go to scrap it back.

I had tried 30 years ago when there was a gold rush. Yes the price of silver went up with the gold but when I wanted to sell nobody wanted to buy so I had to offloaded in HongKong where they bought 10-20% lower than market price.

Better stick to gold bullion as it's much more easy to sell anywhere.

And both selling and buying prices in Thailand are quoated everyday in newspapers.

Besides there are many sizes of gold bars in Bangkok that you can

buy compare to what they had in gold market 30 years ago.

Good luck.

The issue I was suggesting to the 'if you dont hold it' crowd is people underestimate storage risk.

Just last week 2 armed men entered my friends house, tied his wife to the chair, and emptied the place of valuables.. I must know 5 expats who have lost multi hundred k gold and silver through break ins.

My bullion is stored in an LBMA vault. Allocated.

Thanks for the replies, i am a firm believer in if you dont hold it you do not own it. I am sure 90% of people who have their PM's and valuables stolen have a loose tongue.

I am not looking to sell silver in Thailand, more of a hobby/ investment for the future:)

I am also an avid coin collector so anyone with coin collections for sale please PM me.

Thanks

I think it's more likely that jealousy and envy play a greater role. When the p**s poor see mr money bags swanning in and out of his palace you can understand why it happens.

Work for a couple of hundred baht or just take thousands/millions.

It's bound to happen. I'm not saying it's right though.
