Benefits Of Retiring In Thailand

Featured Replies

I was recently asked by a new member why I chose Thailand for my ultimate retirement, instead of perhaps Singapore, Malaysia, or other places. I think the question is better answered in the forum - although it has been addressed before, what are the pro's and con's of different countries you have experience with ?

For me, Singapore is not appealing for retirement - too urban, too small, too commercial, too expensive, foreigner cannot own house (only apartment in 4 story or more development) etc. Also without employment in Singapore my visa will expire, so no option anyway.

Malaysia has a retirement visa option, and has plenty of low-key rural living opportunities.

But I find the Thai people and Buddhist way of live infinitely more appealing. Add to that the fact that my better half is Thai, and there really is no question.
